I've not used d-pad since PS2. Especially since the introduction of 360 degree dribbling.

I feel you really lose out on a few tight angles by ignoring the analog stick.

Yeah you definitely do, and you miss out on a lot of passing accuracy. PS3' analog stick is horrible though, but I guess I have to start using it.

PES 14 is better than 13. However, tackling is still rubbish. You almost have to wait for opposing players to run into you.
The graphics look like PS2 standard. And the player movements are frustrating. It's like they're playing on ice.
The goalkeeper animations also continue to look dodgy.

FIFA 14 looks not much different to 13 and 12. It's a good game, but not different enough to justify buying.

I quite like the tackling. I especially like that containing actually works as opposed to FIFA where I find it useless.

Don't have a clue what you mean by 'graphics look like PS2 standard'. In-game the graphics are great, animations are good and it flows smoothly. There's a bit of slowdown in the replays but I wouldn't say that's bad graphics. Disagree with 'it's like they're playing on ice' too, I think they've got a good weight about them.

Keepers still aren't great but they seem better.

The players on PES definitely so not feel on ice. If anything this is the best it's ever felt in terms of the players moving and pushing off the ground beneath them. Including FIFA.

The graphics I can kinda get. The animations are great but the contrasty nature and plainness of everything from the pitch to the god awful crowd is pretty poor. Still, it's a new engine and the start of something wonderful IMO.

Lets see what they do with the tweaking before the final release and master league as well.

So few more games under my belt. What i like and have seen more in this game then in any others is the players feeling like the players themselves, for example i have been playing a lot with Munich and Robben acts like Robben and feels like Robben. On the downside a few more matches and the bloody ball bobbling issue i think is by far the biggest problem and low crosses dont seem to work as well as previous. Also the referring is shocking, i think they may have Overbo as a consultant.

Also can anyone shed any light on advanced shooting? Been swapping between this and manual shooting but dont really seem to see a difference.

Don't know. I only use manual shooting. Feels consistent but difficult. It will take practice.

The player individuality is fantastic in PES and it only seems to be getting better now that the game play is catching up.

The bobbling is annoying however. It really should be stamped out by the time of its release. There's no excuse.

Ref...needs to be dealt with.

The pitch graphics are poor. It's like something from PS2. They have finally made an effort with the dribbling - no more of the robotic running.

FIFA 14 is better, but it looks no different to 13. The biggest negative with recent FIFA titles has been the scripted goals, where the CPU will score a goal(s) no matter what you do. And usually in the 45th and 90th minutes. I can only hope this scripting has been removed from FIFA 14, though I doubt it.

I don't think there's actual scripting in FIFA, it's just the way the game plays means certain things are more likely to happen.

FIFA 14 isn't better IMO.

I'll be getting PES 14 only because it is different and better than PES 13.

FIFA 14, whilst a more solid game, is not that much different from FIFA 13, which I already have.

Really enjoyed the PES 14 demo, feels like they've skipped a PES in terms of evolving, is quite different.
Animations are superb

Played FIFA 13 for the first time since the two demos came out. Thanks a lot demos. Now I can't enjoy the game I own.

The reviews of this game are all over the place. From great to awful. Although I feel some of the reviewers are putting too much emphasis on the menus and modes I can understand it. The gameplay is first for me and PES has nearly...NEARLY..nailed it. However it does fall short on its dated...well everything else.

It should be said that they have developed this game from a brand new engine so any short comings this game can be forgiven IMO.

Anything not fixed or present in the following years version will show its lack of ability to keep up with FIFA. Konami isnt some tiny company in gaming. If they want to keep up they have the funds to do so. They need to put their money where their mouth is.

Do they really though? Obviously they're a big company but EA is bigger.

Finally got round to downloading PES 14. Didn't buy any football games last year and had only switched to Fifa the previous year after buying every iteration of PES from the Snes ISS days.

Anyway, at first I thought it looked terrible, play was really sluggish and I nearly stopped playing after the first half, but the comments on here got me through and I ended up playing 5/6 games.

What struck me was how different each game was, yes I won them all but some were tense 1-0s, others were goal-fests but ultimately they were all enjoyable - something that I never got from Fifa and I don't think I've experienced since PES 6 on PS2.

Has anyone bought the full game? Is it much different from the demo?

Also, why are my players so slow? I get out-paced every game for through balls. How do I dribble?

Games like PES 2014 justify games piracy. It is broken and unfinished. I paid £35 for it and feel I've been conned. That said, some parts are enjoyable.

My advice: Don't buy it at full price. It's probably good value at £20.
