grand,
Is that not waht Scorr Parker did when he went from Charlton to Chelsea ?
====================
I'm not sure but the fact we're not even sure about this one, and we cant think of any other examples, probably does confirm that it is "extremely rare".
To me it doesn't matter if you've just signed a contract, or are 3yrs in to a 4yr one. You are under contract in both cases.
It would be rare, but any rarer than putting in a transfer request one week and signing a new contract the next?
HRH
If players put in a ransfer request and the club refuses to sell them, like in the cases of Benteke, Rooney, Cabaye etc. the most common thing to do is to offer them a new contract.
I just cannot see Villa absolutely refusing to sell Benteke for £20-30m (as were the figures doing the rounds) in August, get him to sign a new contract, and then allow him to leave 5 months later. I just cannot see it.
All we can do is bookmark this article and revisit it in January.
We can bookmark it but its only relevant if we make a bid and Villa turn it down.
We probably won't be in for him at all, but I would be personally. I'd have pushed for him over Soldado in the Summer myself personally

I am sure of it, I think it was 3 months after Scott Parker signed a new contract and swore his allegiance to Charlton that he was transferred. I do know it was a matter of weeks anyway
grand,
I dont doubt your knowledge on this but my point is that it is extremely rare for this to happen.
Particularly in the manner of how the Benteke contract was handled (i.e. him going awol then made to stay, then signing a contract etc) i just do not believe he would be allowed to leave 5 months after that.
If Villa werent going to cash in then (even after he put in a transfer request) i just dont know how he would leave in 5 months time.
Why would Villa go to all that trouble in August, only to allow him to leave shortly after?
That just doesnt make sense to me.

I doubt Benteke will leave but the other thing to take into consideration is the longer contract he is on the more Villa can get for him.
grand,
I totally understand how a contract affects the asking price, but they were already being offered (as was reported) approx £30m, and i cant imagine they would get that much more for him in January.
He was only 1 year into his contarct as it was so again, i just cannot see Benteke being sold in January, especially after the lengths Villa went to deny him a move just a month ago - that wouldnt make any sense to me.
You gave the Parker example (of which i will take your word that it was true) but can you think of any examples where a player has put in a transfer request, then withdrew that request by signing a new contract, only to leave 5 months later?
Every aspect of the way the Benteke situation was dealt with would indicate to me that Villa would just not simply back down and allow him to leave mid-season.
This is just my opinion of course, based on what went on in the summer, and knowledge of historic transfer dealings (or the lack of in these circumstances).
Of course we could say "never say never" but i doubt any Spurs fan would believe that Eriksen would leave for say, Chelsea; in January - even though it is not impossible for this to happen.

I 100% agree I dont believe for one second that Benteke will be available in January I just gave the Parker example cos you said it does not really happen.
grand,
Fair enough.
Where you been hiding anyway? I haven't seen you about the boards too often recently.
