Good play from Luiz to start the move for the goal and a nice lay off from Lampard for Oscar.
But all too rare in this game, I'm afraid.

And MVG has been poor.

Basel have played well. Hopefully they attack us more and we pick them off nice and easy. I hope Eto'o gets a goal, he deserves it.

Luiz is always the player to get things going. When things are all sluggish, its usually him who drives us forward. Credit also goes to Lampard for a great pass, and the lovely composed finish by Oscar!

Oscar did what Torres has not done.

Basle doing what we expected, being compact and trying to hit on the rare counter.

We just aren't moving the ball quickly enough, too many players looking to dribble rather than pass and move.

Oscar, Ivan and Luiz had good halves for me, Eo'o had good and bad moments. Willian and MVG started off very brightly then looked meh. Lampard didn't have a good half but good work for the goal. Cole not looking great.

Hopefully, Basel will have to open up a bit now giving us more room to attack but we need move the ball quicker.

Cole looked poor, but apart from that I don't think it's to do with individuals, we aren't playing as a unit yet, which isn't particularly surprising - there a alot of players playing with each other for the first or second time.

Mata in this game would have worked well.

Last year the safe bet would have been to start Mata v Everton and Oscar/Willian v Basel. But now Everton like to play and Basel like to defend. When teams are playing compact and tight Mata' creative movements and passing can really make the difference.

I won't lie but that was a very poor 1st half from us and we are lucky to be winning but we have had some very good performers like Oscar, Willian and Eto'o. We have also had some good performances from Ivanovich, Cahill, Luiz, MVG and apart from his corners Lampard has played well. The only 2 players who i think haven't played well are Cole and Hazard, i think Hazard has been trying to do too much and he's just given the ball away to much. Salah has completely owned Cole in the 1st half and if Cole doesn't improve in the 2nd half i can see him getting substituted again.

Why has everyone gone so quiet on here at the start of the 2nd half.
