It is the mark of champions to play badly and win. You don't win titles if you win 4-0 every week. To win titles you have to play badly and scrape out results every week. So I for one am glad we played bad and hopefully we can play worse next week. Really like what Moyes is doing.

RvP looks demotivated.

no surprise about rvp... he gets no service from such a woeful midfield.

3) we cant keep the ball
....................
We can just that we are clumsy in arund the box seen this since preseason carried onto prmerierleague. We seem solid overall its just teams are being so clinical against us at the moment. We probably will be the best visiting side sunderland face this season. RVP is embarrassing with his clumsyness this season to. I mean first half he couldn't control a simple ball and it went out of play and he was falling over. 2nd half end he misses a sitter, he missed a good chance against chelsea at end to and against west brom. I think arsenal fans are right about him hes not that clinical especially when it matters. He is having a bad run in front of goal currently though. Its worrying when a youngster januzaj and nani seemed like our only hope from that game. We basically attacked for most of the 90 minutes camped in sunderland half and created 4 good chances, one nani blasted over one at rvp hit wide and the other shots were from 15-20yds with lots of sunderland plays trying to block them and had probably near 50+ crosses today to probably sunderland 5 yet we didn't seem like scoring until 2nd half we were more intricate in our passing.

Agree with that to a certain extent. He is not getting any service at all for the large portion of the match but he is missing sitters. whts going on?

RVP missed 3 games with injury FFS.

Plus he scored a top goal against Leverkusen when we needed it.

- Probably frustration, lack of confidence even pressure perhaps. The pressure because of the form of the team and the very little chances he gets to score (ditto frustration). Lack of confidence because of missing chances are having a knock on effect. I think he'll need just to score a goal (perhaps an assist) to start getting fired up again. But the service needs to be improved, otherwise utd are a man down. Apart from Rooney, nobody else is giving decent service, rvp is more deadly with his feet rather than the head.

Getting more players playing the ball on the floor would be a good start as utd have the players for it, but the main problem is fitting the pieces together to form multiple ways the ball can get to rvp, rather than just a cross.

I totally agree with "playing the ball on the floor' part. this is how we can get the best out of RVP, Nani, Kagawa etc...

Less hoofing and more passing is what we need

posted on 5/10/13

He gets no service from our midfield. Simple as. He relies on it. It doesn't even have to be good service (look at Valencia's woeful cross about 3 feet behind him that he still managed to convert) but he isn't getting that.

- Its always been the utd way. Plus, utd have got the players to create the balance to make it happend. Of course, you need players that'll be physical, and needing the runners too. They're the foundations for the more creative players to do their stuff in the opposing half. All the great sides of past and present have them. From your Bayern's, Barca too the dutch, brazil of the 70's etc.

Bayern and Barca may do an odd hoof here and there but they arnt doing anyway near hoofing as united do. it may be the way united always play and may have worked on 70's but times have changed. tactics have changed/improved.

modern football is based on possesion. if we cant keep the ball we wont win. simples

today dortmund lost and bayern munich drew and real madrid bailed themselves out of trouble with two late goals to win from behind. We don't hoof it much we just cross the ball to much.

posted on 5/10/13

Technically a cross is a high ball delivered by a winger/fullback from the by line, hoof is a kick up the field from inside our half.

How many crosses we made today?

posted on 5/10/13

probably 50+ crosses.

A very fair point You've got more chance of losing by crossing or using long ball, you have very little error of margin especially as it's usually RVP vs three/four players. With short, medium passes the accuracy will be much, much higher and exploit holes in the opposition.

United pinging cross after cross into the Sunderland box, but the Black Cats are dealing with it. United must be smarter.
.........
Well I know in the first half all we seemed to do was cross the ball after there is no space in middle. Thats what made me believe second half if we play better intricate crosses or get a bit of luck with the bounce of the ball we could score some goals and we did it from 2 crosses.

Really? wow

Sometimes when defenders hoof it to the front man it is registered as a 'cross from the deep'. maybe they count that as well because I really dont think we put 42 crosses in to the sunderland box.

I could be wrong.

If the figure is accurate, it shows exceptional wing play. if we play with a striker that actually attack crosses (Chica ) we could have scored a lot more
