I know what you mean. Annoying, but it had to happen sooner or later.
What a stupid, stupid article.
You're basically saying it's better we drop points once in a while... so we avoid getting complacent and then... um... drop points.
What the fúck are you talking about?
Penguin - what I'm saying is, the longer the run of wins goes on without any points dropped, the more the pressure increases to maintain the winning run - which makes it all the more likely that when the run does come to end, it's going to lead to a catastrophic run of form.
So it's better if we drop the odd two points now and then, instead of seeing confidence nosedive completely. Is that simple enough for you to understand?
"In fact, after that ten-game winning run, the Invincibles drew five out the last nine games."
The invincibles didn't get complacent, they had already won the league and thought "Let's go for the unbeaten record" and stopped pushing forward as much. I wouldn't go as far to say they played for draws, but if Chelsea or whatever had still been in with a shout, they would have got a lot more points in those final games.
I think he is saying that dropping points is going to happen.....no won is going to win 37 games straight in a season......away result even to WBA is acceptable.....(we could be spurs you know...)
The thing with Arsenal is we do get arrogant sometimes.....in the 1st half we assumed we would win.....this result may have given us a rude awakening......
Couldn't agree more, a very interesting perspective. Rather the winning run comes to an end with a hard-fought point away from home than with a home thrashing.
Right before the international break as well, with some key players coming back from injury too.
If it had to end, which it did, this was a good way to do it.
I completely get what you mean. Obviously it's not ideal but it has the potential to work in the way that you say.

When you put it like that it sounds much better, but a side with the quality and experience to win a Premier League title shouldn't be affected that drastically by one result.

But it's not really a question of quality or experience, I think. Because the more games you win on the trot without any blips, the more significance it will have when you do drop points, because you almost forget how to deal with that experience.
Its clear that at one point we will lose. WBA will beat a lot of teams in this season at home. We managed to fight back and grab a point against a good opponent who deserved that point.
I am not unhappy today. We stay at the top of the league before the international break and we will get back our players soon.
Go game by game. If you have a look at the others top teams they are not looking better than us.

What about the Villa game, then? Hadn't lost since March and yet it didn't seem to cause any sort of impact at all.

Maybe that had something to do with the three-month break before the Villa game?

Decent article, a point is firstly good for us, things only get better for us, walcott and cazorla back soon
We lost the Villa game because the ref was Anthony Taylor.
When we lost to Villa, expectations were low because we had not made any signings and people feared a drubbing from Fenerbahce.
If we go on a winning run and say take a beating at OT due to a shambolic refereeing performance similar to Lee Mason's today then it would have a big knock on confidence and moral. Even the best fail to recover from defeats like that, ie the Invincibles

I suppose if you're going to drop points, this sort of performance is the way to do it. Still don't buy the argument that this is necessary, but I'll give you that.
