Danny Mills is often on 5Live co-commentating on England under 21 matches and was particularly scathing of their performance in the under 21 Euros. Also he is recently out of the game and provides a more youthful voice on the panel. Not as strange a choice as it may seem. Think Waddle might have been a decent shout too, he's seemed to have strong opinions on England and youth development before.
The FA should have asked Jack Wilshere. Here's a young, level-headed English footballer, not only with recent experience of the U21 set up, but also currently tasked with carrying the seniors.
Most importantly he's his own man and isn't afraid to tell things the way they really are, rather than opting to hide behind bland, pithy football-speak the way many of his contemporaries do.
A nation needs great men to make it great, and they don't come much greater than our Jack.
Danny Mills....!
