Or if Lennon is back fit, swap Lennon for Holtby and play
Lennon Eriksen Townsend

Make up your mind edin

Edin:

In general, I like the idea of Eriksen being on the right wing with Holtby as a No. 10.

However, in a tough away fixture I'd start Siggy as he never stops running and tries his best to track back!

Sorry, meant "Eriksen on the LEFT wing..."

I wouldn't start Defoe. Villa will attack us and might just give Soldado the space to run behind their defenders. He isn't the quickest but neither is Vlaar....

Defoe would just be offside all the time as he cannot time his runs

Na this game is right for Defoe... Already bagged goals there and with Eriksen and holtby he'd get slipped in loads

West Ham was right for Defoe

No, let's have our Soldado back for this one

Will they have Benteke back.

Defoe deserves more than just one start in the league. Why can Soldado get 6 starts and no goals from open play yet Defoe gets 1 start and 0 goals and thats it?

Soldado is a better player. No other reason. I want to see our best team out there to give ourselves the best chance of winning.

Defoe will get his chances here and there throughout the season

Defoe was useless against West Ham. Soldado is far superior in every department.

I also think it's time for Lamela to start. Siggy has been good this season, but he's not the same calibre. Lamela needs game time in the league to adapt.

Appareances are not the same as starts though. Soldado got an "appearance" versus West Ham remember, so we should also take that into account too, then.

==================

All XI players were rubbish against West Ham, do you want to replace them all?

And how can you claim Defoe was useless so he should be dropped, then suggest Lemala to start when he's been one of our worst players thus far?

Doesnt make any sense.

cant believe people still want to start defoe.

it was a joke that avb dropped soldado for the west ham game, especially after defoe playing 90 mins in Russia. and defoe missed the only good chance he had v west ham.

Chronic,

Why is it a joke Soldado was dropped? The fella is yet to score in 7 league appearances from open play and he's wasted far more chances than Defoe - yet you're pulling out one decent chance (it wasnt a sitter by any means) as a reason why an unproven player should replace him.

It makes me laugh how "new signing" is always preferred on our board, even when the stats show us different.

I'm not too bothered which one is selected (even though i believe Defoe deserves more than just one league start) but i just find it totally ridiculous that Defoe is getting the majority of the blame in a 3-0 loss, where we hardly created anything and our tactcs were totally amateur against a cráp side. Outfoxed by Big Sam - that is the bigger picture, not a debate about which forward is worse than who.

Going on starts alone, Defoe has started 5 matches of a possible 12 and Soldado has started 7.

Accepting that all starts are worthwhile Soldado hasn't been heavily favoured over Defoe.

=====================

And Defoe has scored 7 goals to Soldado's 4*, in less games.

* only 2 from open play.

---------

but has played well for the most part.

meanwhile when he played in the Europa against the calibre of team defoe has been scoring against then he scored a brace... so you are basically by dropping soldado penalizing him for not having been picked to play against shiiiiit sides where he would bang them in for fun.....

makes no sense

is that true though? look at how many times I had to stick up for Dempsey and siggy last season ! and even dembele too.

you cant bring in a big striker signing, he scores the winner in both of the first two games, and then doesn't score for a while, mainly due to lack of chance creation for him, so drop him......

well you can do it, but its silly.... and avb got it wrong v west ham.

We've created fack all for either player to convert into goals. That is the real problem. Not which of Defoe or Soldado deserves to be starting the more important games.

All i know is that Soldado seems more of a team player than Defoe, and that in the formation we play we need somebody who isn't only looking to get shots away like Defoe.

We know both are good goalscorers who will convert given the chance.
