How is that the wrong context?
You've said before that you can't judge Baines on these two games, then stated that you've seen Cole twice this season.
Why can you judge Cole on two games and not Baines?
As I've already said, that is hypocritical.
The time is right for Cole to pass on the torch to Baines. Same with Lampard passing the torch on to Carrick/Wilshere/Barkley.
Well winston I get impression from you that you dont think baines can defend ( I could be wrong) the moderen day full backs job is more than just defending.

If United did beers... (U16990)
No, it's not hypocritical. You were quick to get excited and didn't actually read the posts.
The point about Baines was that he's played in two games against average opposition. That's not enough to justify kicking Cole out.
The point about Cole was to argue that he's not lacking in fitness or the ability to get forward, based on what I've seen in two games.
Two completely different points.
So yes, wrong context.
Passing the torch to a 29 year old?
I could understand it is he was young.
Baines has played 1 game against average opposition, the other game he was playing against a winger who for 60 or so minutes, was fantastic.
Mr Reasonable (U2320)
Being able to defend is not a black and white question, is it?
I regard Cole as a far better defender, but that doesn't mean I don't think Baines can defend.
Imo baines offers more to a team than cole. Cole is still a very good lb but imo baines is now better

Passing the torch to a 29 year old?

Still 3 years younger than Cole. Good enough for me.
play baines on the left wing instead of wellbeck, its obvious
_____
This would be good. Baines is just so good on the ball, its criminal to not have him in the team. His dead ball delivery and his ability to dribble past 2/3 players and create an opening is better than what Welbeck can do on that left hand side.

Are you upset because you realised that you made a mistake by taking my comments out of context?
Grow up and come back when you're capable of adult conversation.
He'll get a WC and a Euros, and at a push, the 2018 WC too....that's far from being too old, isn't it?
"play baines on the left wing instead of wellbeck, its obvious"
If people want to pick him solely on his contribution going forward, then absolutely!
Townsend, Agbonlahor, Baines....all would be better options than Welbeck on the left.
Jay - The eyes are open, the mouth moves, but Mr Brain has long since departed. (U16498)
Didn't say he was too old.
But Cole could make two of those three tournaments, so I don't understand the suggestion that he's passing the torch!
Townsend and Baines, yes....but Agbonlahor?
Agbonlahor is pacy and is an attacking threat
Agbonlahor has more pace, and has been in better form than Welbeck for a while. Agbonlahor is a lot better in and around the box.
How is Agbonlahor defensively? That is one aspect of Welbeck that is overlooked a fair amount to be honest.
Agbonlahor works hard on both halves of the pitch. Against Arsenal he probably covered more ground than anyone else.
Im not sure defensively. but if Roy specifically told Gabby to track back im sure he could do it. He's quick enough.
