nice video too I know Lee Johnson...just not the Oldham gaffer
Mornin’ Tino - vip member of lrfs's draft league. as well as being lubo's nemesis, bit over familiar (it does say call me Cheryl Baker not Cheryl) but I’m in a good mood after a win so I’ll forgive you
well I was unsure wether to go with Cheryl, Ms Baker or Cheryl Baker....I could do with some help in making my mind up
What was the wet stuff all over the Mol pitch?
Tears at our first half performance
There you go Tino, confusion gone.
Tommo's chunked up a bit since I last saw him in Walkabout
I’m good Tino, you sound?
I didn’t see him last night, I got out of my seat as soon as the half-time whistle went and didn’t sit down we were ready to kick off again but he has put a bit of timber on looking at the pics.
It was a real disappointment to hear the team before the game. Resting Doyle when he had been playing in Internationals while others were having a break was understandable, but to replace him with another midfield player was a really negative thing to do. Clearly after his last starting performance Jackett has lost some faith in Siggy.
But worst was that against poor opposition we matched their set up rather than take the game to them. A worrying sign from Mr Jackett and you wonder what football we will play under him at a higher level. I really hoped after the Gillingham game that we would have a season like the one where we got promotion under McCarthy with an attacking 4-4-2 set up with goals and attacking football on a regular basis. But it seems that's not Jackett's style.
Again like the last home game we were indebted to Sako for unlocking the opposition when 0-0 looked a real possibility. And he is really invaluable to us. And we just never play with any fluency or with any attacking invention when Doyle is not there. Griffiths is not a player that can lead the line on his own and only after Oldham fell behind, brought on their subs and went more attacking did he get into the game.
Henry played well but its a real blow that Doherty will be out for a few games, and Stearman had his usual 'moments' when he came on to suggest we wont be as strong defensively without Matt.
Have you heard any news on Doherty DJ?
I thought Stearman did OK. Not the threat going forward that Doherty provides but only one heart in mouth moment that I remember.
I thought as well as his bizarre effort at an own goal I thought Stearman gave away a couple of silly free kicks to put us under unnecessary pressure. But maybe I spot his moments more than I should cause I am not that confident in him. Prefer him at centre back really.
Doherty is being assessed at Compton this morning evidently so there should be some news of him later.
I'm good thanks Cheryl
manic at work tho...opening a 3rd premises means I have to actually work
also not going to italy next week forgot how late in the month it was and have to "lockdown" my chalet by 2nd November so have to go do that instead
I too wondered how Kenny would direct things without Doyle. As it happens the decision to rest him proved to be a good one, and I'm sure he'll be back next match.
The strategy with that line-up was clearly not going to be 4-4-2, but I thought Evans did quite a good job playing in an advanced position in front of the midfield, so more of a 4-4-1-1. It's good to see that we have a plan B that works OK, albeit against a poorer opposition.
Re Doherty, Stears was never going to be as good at LB but, apart from the alarming attempt at a "goal of the season" own goal, I thought he did OK. I wonder who Kenny would have put on if Foley had been on the bench. Perhaps Saturday will tell us the answer to that one.
All in all, a thoroughly satisfying evening. Top by bonfire night.
If you haven’t already seen them.....

Wow, got some lucky breaks with both goals, looks like the weather had a part in both really.
Would like to think Foley gets the start on Saturday rather than Stearman at RB, how about a shock call up for Kostrna, does he play right?
Its becoming hard to read KJ at all, he seems hell bent on cramming midfield one way or another with his pulling of wingers inside, now a 5 man midfield so i would not be surprised to see him go with this system again.
I would rather he play Doyle behind the striker maybe in the 4-2-3-1 system he said he was a fan of early in the season but has not really tried.
Jackett said after the game he has a good replacement for Doherty in stearman so I don't think there's much doubt who will play RB on Saturday
If that is the case it is safe to assume Foleys time at the club will likely be coming to an end, maybe as soon as January.
Hope not he's got more goals per minute this season than Sig!
Haha, thats a darn good point
I don't think we should be too worried about how we play under KJ really. The positive sign this season is how well the defence is playing and only having conceded 7 goals in 12 league matches tells me that he's doing the right thing and building from the back. Maybe a wee bit over cautious, but rather be keeping cleans sheets and winning the way we are, rather than a gung ho attitude. Only one side has scored more than once against us, Swindon (at home).
So let KJ do the job he's been entrusted with (and lets face it, we 'ain't doin' that badly right now). We'll all have our opinions on the system he chooses to play and the personnel his picks to play it and that bodes well for good debating on 'ere.
But for now, lets just simply enjoy the ride and not get too upset if we drop a few points along the way.
