I am sorry GG. I am sorry that your old fashioned ways are outdated and you have not come to terms with the cosmopolitan 21st century.

Is it a surprise to anyone that GG wrote one of his few positive articles about the blond haired blue eyed Nicky Bendtner?

I personally prefer Gibbs, but both him and Monreal are top, top quality. I don't think there's a side in Europe with a better two for the LB position than us. We're lucky to have both.

A bit over the top DJ, but Garwood deserves it for his constant criticism of Theo

Monreal when came on played well yesterday. He showed again that he is offensively miles ahead of Gibbs.

If Gibbs wants to get in the England national team as a first choice he has to improve his offensive play dramatically all in all. His positioning when bombing forward let him down as well. He has tactically improve as well.

So give Monreal a chance...

Totally agree with you Garwood Gunner, you are one of the few people that come on here and talk sense.
Just a word in your ear DJ, you do have to be careful with what you say on here, if I was Garwood I would have taken offence also.

Pace and stamina are extremely important in our current system. Even more so at the moment because we do not have Podolski / Walcott to give us natural width or put in a shift defensively on the flanks either. Gibbs is a better player than Monreal and is still developing, it's a no brainer. I do like Nacho too though.

Monreal was playing further forward so easy to look better offensively than Gibbs, maybe monreal is better going forward but not by much, defensively Gibbs is better so thats why he has to be first team imo

Thank you for all your comments and opinions. (Excluding the offensive ones obviously) It appears I am in the minority regarding the left back position.

How can we all force Walcott out of our club. Any ideas?
This guy trotts around the pitch like a show pony with no show.
HE IS NOT A FOOTBALLER!
Harsh as it may seem, I was hoping he wouldn't get up when he went down with the head injury. He's a constant embarassment.

This bloke is a pathetic waste of space, get him out of our club! He's an embarassment to Arsenal Football Club.

So that is why GG took so long to reply to my apology... he was getting his son on-line as well...

Wrong. It isnt a no brainer. Gibbs offensively must improve dramatically. Thats not good enough.

Rubbish, I have seen GIbbs perform excellently for us offensively, right now he has a lot of work on his hands and the priority is being solid defensively as we are narrow without Walcott and Podolski. You fail to realise how hard Lukas / Theo work for us defensively too.

Gibbs is one of the top LB's for chance creation, touches in opposition half, he chips in with goals and assists. It's BS that he is not good going forward. there's more to attacking than crossing.

Wrong again. He couldnt cross for his life, he cost us points due to bad positioning in the past. Why do we get in these kind of situation like yesterday Arteta/Chamakh or against Dortmund? Our FB's let us down.

He is solid at the back but offensively he has a mountain to climb. I prefer Monreal.

What an outlandish ridiculous assertion to make GT. So Monreal makes one good dribble towards the end of the game when Crystal Palace were caught on the break and you decide he is better offensively. Not only are they bottom of the table with the worst defensive record but his dribble didn't even come to anything and he lost the ball.

Monreal has not even played enough games for us to make any sort of judgement akin to that he is better offensively.

You need a re-think.

I think Gibbs has been very consistent for a long time now, he's undisputed no.1at this moment in time imo. Monreal is a very good left back, and we're lucky to have two of such high quality. You'd be hard pressed to find a club that has two as good as we do. For me it is all about preferences. Gibbs offers us more width than Monreal, which is pretty important considering that we play Cazorla on the left, and with him drifting inside often, Gibbs gives us a much needed option out wide when attacking. His end ball does need improvement, but his ball retention is good, so he can still be a key part of our build up play. Plus it's also useful to have that blistering recovery pace that he possesses over Monreal. He's a fantastically strong tackler as well.

Monreal is still a very important player to have, gives us good options to rotate, protect the lead as against Spurs, Palace yesterday, etc.

I didnt based my statement on the Palace game mate. I based it on what I have seen so far.

Did give you an example as well with the Dortmund game...but exposed us in the past as well and cost us points.

Kos, Mert Verm has also cost us points just like strikers miss chances sometimes.

Ok buddy, well you could be right, Monreal may be better offensively. This wouldn't be a massive surprise as Spanish players tend to be more well-rounded / versatile because of their technique training from a young age. They have long had attacking full-backs / wing backs before the English game adapted to it somewhat. However, I have not seen enough of Monreal to prove that yet.

posted on 27/10/13

When I say I haven't seen enough it's not because I don't watch us, I haven't missed a game in years. Just that he hasn't played enough. Wenger does place him in front of Gibbs when he's brought on rather than pushing Gibbs forward so perhaps Wenger feels the same.
