Results Wise Great - Form Wise Awful

I don't think we will continue to play like this.
The good thing about AVB is that he seems to
address our problems.
Late Goals conceded ? sorted.
Goals at set pieces? Conceding less now.

I won't be surprised to see him go 4 42 to so called lesser teams at home.

With so many new players in the squad, we have to accept a large part of the season where we don't play with fluidity and confidence.

However, we've got some great players in the squad and a few are showing hints of some real class.

I agree we've probably been a little lucky in some matches, and been a bit slow and boring in others but I genuinely think we'll improve a lot as the season progresses.

Fingers crossed we can keep winning while the side finds its feet.

I agree, last night was dreadful, and Sprus were so lucky to escape with a win in the end. The problem is possibly too many players, and also AVB needs to make peace with a couple of players, Assou-Ekotto and Adebayor, they have been frozen out and frankly they have to be better than what we have. Benny is a far better left back than either Rose or Naughton, and Ade leads a line beter thn Defoe.

Everybody is exaggerating a bit too much about how boring we are. As soon as it's noticed that we're playing less attractive Football, everybody exaggerates ridiculously and it becomes a bandwagon.

It's not good, but nowhere as bad as people are making out.

P.S - I think the biggest exaggeration in this article is that we're the most boring team to watch in the league.. simply not true.

Yes a little over board I admit, but our games must have had the least amount of goals in them this season, as we are not scoring much and we are not conceding.

This is the most boring side in Spurs recent history but thats not the point. Sooner rather than later our lack of creating chances will tell against us.2 inverted wingers makes the pitch so much smaller and kills our own attacks.
I'm not sure if AVB will want to change tactics. Keeping possession in midfield means nothing if our attacks are easily dismanteld in the final 3rd.I'll back AVB all the way but that does not mean i'm a fan of our tactics.

I would struggle to name many who were more boring ... We play a good deal of 'keep-ball' without making many clear cut opportunities ('clear-cut' being the operative word - we hit a lot of long-rangers, but how many great chances are we getting every game? 2? 3?). We're lacking in pace and playing far too narrow. We're not scoring many and not conceding many.

I'd say that's pretty boring, especially compared to 10/11 or 11/12

It is a little ironic that the g00ns have nicked our style of free flowing footie and we have nicked theirs of a 1-0 and a tight defence.

I miss the VdV as well, but when im in doubt I remind my self of life before 'Arry with Juande Ramos and get a grip on myself.

Winning ugly will have to do for this part of the season. I am hopeful that the team will gel by the new year, and all our new signings will show their silky skills and take us to the top with style and flair

Blanch

Its not about gelling. I think most of the players have acclimatised. Its the tactics we use. It was the same last season but wet unnoticed because Bale usually won the game for us. Mourinhio is more of a defensive coach as well but at least when his teams attack they do it with purpose and intent. When we go forward we look so slow it's irritating.

What I really can't understand is what's happened to our wing play. A huge number of goals come from playing it into the big #10 or beating the full back and playing in low/high crosses.

We don't do either any more, so it's basically tiki-taka around the box and hoping a ridiculous one-touch move comes off (which - looking at our 'goals for' column is quite invariably). Confusing stuff.

Its true that slow is irritating and has left fans a bit confused, but i think AVB picked up a lot of Maureens philosophy.

In Joses first reign at Chelsea chaavs were equally dissatisfied with his super defensive style of play right up until they won the League cup, then they never looked back.

Drogba the was the difference upfront with his near faultless finishing so we have to have faith that Soldado, Paulinho and if it pleases the football gods, Lamela will result in Spurs having similar success, but it will take another full season for it to become a habit.

We need, and have been getting tons of luck so far so lets at least enjoy that part of the equation.

This I think is a key point. We don't have a beast of a striker to hold the ball up and make space for our other attackers. Soldado is great at making space for himself but he's not the player we need (imo Benteke would be perfect) to compliment our midfield.

Either we tailor it, and speed everything up, or get one of NEW ADE or NEW STRIKER in January.

Lukaku would be perfect. Shame Chel$ki will never sell (and I don't blame them)

Everyone seems to be saying that the way we're playing is deliberate and a tactical ploy of AVB. WTF? No manager in the world would sit idly by and watch a team not only play badly but also not really produce. Something is clearly wrong. Mourinho is the kind of manager that grinds out wins but even his Chelsea team will bang in 4 goals every now and then and look really comfortable. It seems to me that we play ineffective football as well as boring football. It worries me when AVB comes out and uses words like "immense" or phrases like "we played fantastically tonight" when it's cleat that neither of those are true. I wouldn't mind playing a slightly drab style of football if we were comfortably beating teams but we're not.

If you look at our wins so far, 3 have come from penalties. That's 6 points (if you account for the probable draws that would have occurred). We would be languishing in mid table without good fortune.

I don't care what anyone says. We're a team in trouble and someone is gonna give us a massive hiding soon enough.

Results and form mean the same thing

Thought we were playing quite nicely until Rose got injured.

The last few performances have been disappointing, but I won't fully judge until we have two proper attacking full backs which should add the width we need whilst allowing us to remain hard to breakdown.

We already had the hiding

I think we're close to everything clicking, Lamela behind the striker may just be the key.

Fridgeboy
Beating them comfortably or beating them badly still gains us 3 points, and I disagree with your point that boring equates to being in trouble.

Thats a point I made earlier, we are being lucky which is a welcome change after the last few seasons.

Scoring from penalties?
We didnt get awarded a single penalty last season ffs, and as for winning a penalty shoot out - it was the first time since 1994! Result!!!
At this stage of the proceedings why cant we look on the bright side?
