Probably Steve Collins for me, I was about 10 or 11 when he began his epic fights with Eubank etc. My mates dad used to bring us to a pub to watch them, th einterest just grew from there.
Also the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 when Irelands Michael Caurruth won gold and Wayne McCullough won silver, I watched all their fights, great times.
As a young child I can only really remember Tyson and Bruno. Then in my early teens it was Benn & Eubank – my late teens and early 20s it was all about Naz & Lennox.
I was 23 when I first joined a boxing gym and from there my interest in fighters (mostly local and domestic) really broadened out. I still couldn’t name my favourite fighter tho, theres just too many I have respect and admiration for.
but the fights that really got me interested was watching Tyson and the heavyweight division.

Same. I remember all his early title fights used to get replayed on Sunday morning on terrestrial television in the 80´s.
Fat chance of that happening now though sadly.
I don't know, I'm sure the BBC still might play some clips of those old fights every now and again.
Who used to watch Grandstand and what did they have on ITV Saint & Greavesey?
Has to be the Eubank/Benn years on ITV. Bruno was also around then I think on the BBC. Some very good fights then and then Prince Naz took it to a new level.
Ali/Norton.
I wanted Norton to win 'cos he was named after a motorbike.
Hatton Mayweather was the one that got be hooked, was around 15 at the time
Yeah Naz was also a big part of it, he had the contract with ITV so you could watch his fights on terrestrial tv, he was awsome to watch when he was in his pomp but then seeing Barrera give him that lesson it opened up a whole new world of boxers to me.
Frank Bruno. Remember being up in the early hours watching him on ITV in the late 80s.
Pacman. There was no boxing prior to the Pipino legend. He is so fast he dodges raindrops. God says daily prayers to him.
Hagler vs Hearns - the fight
The Heavyweights of the early 70's. Out of the British fighters, John Conteh.
I too grew up watching McGuigan due to terrestrial TV. I also remember watchin Lloyd Honeghan (sp) beating Don Currie who was revered by many to be P4P the best at that time and Honeghan beat him. Superb night of boxing.
Tyson was the first real class fighter I really saw. I was around 11 at the time.
Then Roy Jones Jr was different class in his prime later on.
Next was De La Hoya, Hopkins, Calzaghe, and the mexicans (Barrera, Morales, Marquez)
For me at the moment its Floyd Mayweather Jr who I like to watch.
I meant to say "Tyson was the first real class heavyweight fighter I really saw. I was around 11 at the time."
