Why does American TV always portray geeks/nerds as these socially awkward people who only ever want to talk about physics or chemistry or whatever. All the geeky people(intelligent with an interest in science just to clarify) I've known in the real world have been no stranger than the next person, don't understand where the stereotype comes from, I doubt they're like that in the US either.

Just because something doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean it's not funny to somebody else. People ridicule programmes like Big Bang Theory (I don't watch it btw) and then go on and try and tell you to watch something else. Why? The OP is already laughing isn't he?!

If there was a comedy blueprint there wouldn't be more than one show. Some of the shows people subsequently mentioned aren't that humorous to me, but I'd never ridicule anyone else for liking it.

I like irreverent humour, Reeves & Mortimer, Ross Noble and such like. As long as they make me laugh I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks.

Reeves and Mortimer Shooting Stars for me one of the best shows to have ever been aired on TV.
