Shouldn't the action of Diego Costa be punished, rather than the result of the action?

If you throw a punch at a player and miss, you've still intended to punch him and would be rightly sent off and banned.

Now, if Diego Costa's intentions weren't to bite Gareth Barry, then you have to ask what he was doing? Kissing him? Giving him a love bite?

I'm sure its against football laws to initiate any sort of sexual conduct towards another player. It might be that the recipient of the behaviour has to make a complaint.

Given that Gareth Barry has refused to condemn Costa for his action, you'd have to question whether Gareth Barry kind of wishes Costa had taken things a little further. With a name first name like Gareth, and a surname like Barry, I wouldn't be surprised. In fact the only surprise is that his middle name isn't Lance or Julian.

Therein lies the difference, imo. Throwing the punch, even if you miss, is different to pulling your arm back as if to punch, but not punching. One is intent to harm, the other is a threat.

If (note: if) Costa carried out the gesture, but didn't follow through by actually snapping at Barry, then it's different to his having tried to bite but missing.

Poor year.

I was just saying on the live thread, Deeney must get very frustrated playing with Ighalo. Deeney, who I think we should take to the Euros, would have more goals had he had a better passer/creator alongside him.

It is just the nature of dumb footy fans mostly.

Remember Michu was apparently amazing and now vardy is incredible despite one six month scoring spree in his career.

Fact is any cant can score in the prem if given service, in recent years work horses like Lambert, Holt, ings and Austin have shown this.
