Even in a tournament full of upsets England still can't beat a big team.

Tournament’s now effectively over as the best side just went out, but I’ll still sit through the largely meaningless games that remain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What did England really do though? Almost score a penalty?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Beat the African Champions convincingly, thrashed the best side ever to have come out of Persia, bravely held the most powerful military in the world to a draw, won a gritty local derby with ease and outclassed the World Champions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hard to argue with the poet Laureate here., aside from the fact I didn’t realise we were bordered with Senegal. Is that new, or were they just forgotten?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I decided against chronological order.

We've come through tougher qualifying groups and still not beaten big teams when we face them in tournaments. England are just big underachievers. And in fact in all major sports not just football.
Really.
You might need to expand your sports knowledge.
But I’m not gonna dig any more holes here spurtle.

Sick and tired of hearing that England are underachievers
When is the last time England lost to a poor side at a major tournament???
For me, only time it's happened in the last 20 odd years is when they lost to Iceland at the Euros, and their disastrous 2014 World Cup campaign
Other than that....
Croatia
Italy
France
Brazil
Portugal
Germany
These are all sides that are capable of beating England
Really tips my knitting this "underachievers" tag when you are being put out by world class sides that you don't have a good given right to be beating...hence aren't underachieving by losing to
Ever considered that your level is actually just below these sides, and you need to over achieve to get past them?
What?! England are the biggest underachievers in football. Best league, most money (which helps development) usually, but particularly this time a quality squad with decent depth. One solitary World Cup on home soil under dodgy circumstances. England should have achieved much more. Should be atleast have more than one trophy, not with the talent that’s been available throughout the years.
The future is bright though. The drought can’t go on for much longer. .

This. Every other big European nation has won a major tournament outside the comfort of their own home except for England. And that excludes the likes of Greece and Czech Republic.

England are underachievers at cricket. Only recently won a first WC and that was due to a fluke.
Greece the biggest yawn to ever snore their way to a win.
Czech Republic won the first peno shoot out.
