The Great Sulk

This is The Baggie Man

I have said from the minute Mr Sulkelka signed we were making an expensive mistake. Too old, not hungry enough and no pace or vision. Will he be back ? Who knows.....

Shaldon, you said in your article:
"Time to move on, and put that guy out to grass with all the other donkeys that are past their day"

Who do you think are the 'other donkeys' past their best you'd put out to grass?

This was The Baggie Man

No one else at the baggies (present day anyway), I was reffering to these 'last minute' pay packet players who seem to cling on to their past glories to collect another pay packet, at gullable clubs,

Never saw Peace as being conned in this way, so SC must have been quite persistant in wanting him, or our Chairman is losing his edge.

Too early to dismiss what he can contribute over the whole season! Without his signature we may not have signed Amalfitano, Sessegnon, etc. Clarke has said he is helping the younger players at the club with training etc. 50k a week is a lot for a club our size, and I wasn't overly impressed that we had gone in for him, but he is at the club now and the fans need to back him if and when he is picked, and back the managers decisions!

Begovic has more goals than Anelka this season. Fact.

Weal, that's one hell of a sum to teach our up and coming youngsters how to sulk

I am not sure SC is telling the truth to be frank, he has to say something to save face.

How come there was no hint of him being ill prior to his exclusion from the squad and nothing about his illness on the official website, strange

Fans actually don't NEED to do anything, at the rate thay some players get payed, they need to do something to placate the fans!!!!!!!!

I take it then you don't agree with backing Clarke? It was his decision to bring him to the club, and his decision to pick him? It seems certain section of fans like to target players to have a moan at!

I love my club WBA, and only want to see them do well.

That doesn't mean I have to back everyone there if I feel they are not doing their best for my team.

Anelka is certainly not pulling his weight, and I think that is the concensus of most fans.

As regards SC, he makes some strange decisions, most of them seem to have been of late. Playing people out of position, well out of form etc., and if I feel those decisions are not right, then surely as a fan I have a right to express my concern.

No one goes out to 'target' players, that is stupid. However, if players (who demand high wages especially) fail to perform week in and week out, then surely they make targets of themselves.

As fans, all we can do is to have faith that behind the scenes the problems that even we can see are being addressed.
Booing or a general bad feeling towards players only has detrimental effect on the rest of the team.....

....and we don't want that. Do we Shaldon?....

Baggie Man.

Agree, as fans we need to have faith, however that does not mean we have to agree with everything.

Not sure how this booing came up, and why should it?

Respect works both ways, if a player isn't performong, such as Anelka, then fans will be frustrated, because that player's ineptitude or lack lustre performance will have a detrimental effect on other players around him.

Pre-season we all thought Anelka was the answer to the Lukaku conundrum. He scored 7 goals in pre-season, looked sharp, and was 'interested'. The first couple of games this season he looked semi-dangerous.

Then his agent died, and he clearly has not been the same person since. The club has a contract with him and so won't cancel it, but I do think the time has come to say to Nico "you gave it your best shot, but you're not good enough anymore. Go out on loan or become a free agent".

I'd like to see Albion cultivate a decent overseas partnership, as Chelsea have done with Vitesse Arnhem. Perhaps if we had an agreement with, say, FC Twente or Standard Liege, we could send the likes of Anelka there. Would help them and us. Plus some youngsters like George Thorne would greatly benefit from 6 months abroad. United used to send loads of kids to Antwerp and they'd come back much better for it.

Good intention Azzy, but I doubt any club loaning Anelka would pick up his wages as they currently stand. We could offer to pay part, but I agree with you that if he is that disinterested the club would pick up on this and would have a conversation with him regarding this. My opinion is that we need to give him more time, trust the manager to manage him, and hope he comes good. Also he will have to earn his place in the team, which so far I don't think he has, apart from his pre- season form. On a side note, I am not entirely sure he even fits into our set up of 4-5-1, as I would put Sess or Mozza in the hole behind the front man before Anelka, and as for upfront, I would put Anichibe & Vydra ahead of him.

I'm not sure any real Albion/football fan ever thought it was a good signing.

Most must how thought 'what the ****', I mean the guy is well past it, known for his great sulks, and knew he would command very high wages.

I don't see he adds anything at all to the club in general, let alone the first team, it was an absolute mistake of the highest proportions in my opinion, and one that needs putting behind us as quickly as possible.

Sign off his contract and let him go asap, keep his registration until his contract expires, so that he can't rip off any other club in the meantime.

Lugano is another pointless one, huge wages, past it, no commitment.

posted on 4/11/13

How can you say that about Lugano, I don't think anyone would break the partnership of Olsson & GMac at the moment. So we can only pass judgement after he gets a run in the team, which will happen at some point this season with injuries, fatigue, loss of form. I thought he had a very good game against Arsensl in the cup!

Lugano's time will come with injuries and bookings. He has a lot to offer I'm sure.
I also feel strongly that Vydra will step up to the mark when he gets his chance.
I know Anelka has not been an unqualified success but Albion have not made many mistakes in the transfer market and get value from virtually every signing.

Luke Moore ?

Baggie Man, there will always be signings that do not work out, but you can't question the clubs overall success in the transfer market!

Baggieman - every club has their bad signings. Moore I think was part of the deal where we screwed Villa for £10M for Davies. We had to take him. He could have worked but we moved him on. Albion have made fewer than most.

In our patch Villa paid Ireland £70K a week, Brum pay Vidic £68K per week and Wolves pay O'Hara £45K a week. Those are bad mistakes.

Hey Alouion how was Shaldon?

posted on 4/11/13

Some players just don't settle, aka Valero but he was great elsewhere, some are just not so good aka Moore, Anelka, Hartson.

But we don't pay over the top, only for Anelka.
