and it's good to know that this isn't necessarily his style (ie boring) and that we are working towards a more expansive attacking style.

He's not stupid. He must enjoy the way Lamela beat his man for the penalty. Townsend also in other games. He needs to create a system which encourages Eriksen, Lennon, Lamela and Townsend to take on their opposite men without sacrifice the shape of the team and leaving us open to counter attack.

I don't think AVB is a negative coach, in the past he's stressed that he likes to play an attacking style.

I think it's largely down to tempo. At home we need to start games like we want to score. Make life uncomfortable for opposition teams. If nothing happens in the first 10-15 mins then we can settle down to our formulaic approach.

I feel we start games with the 'Keep the ball and wait' mentality.

At home we should be 'Park your bus and watch us 'trash it' from the first minute.'

I think we need to encourage our full backs to get down the line more as well, like Marcelo or Lahm do. We need width to create space for our creative boys to do the business. Walker does it to a certain extent but it's non existent down the left now Rose is out. We definitely need a left back in the window.

Agreed, Left back of any sort would transform our play. at the moment teams can double up on there left flank and leave their right because we always cut into a congested space. Naughton and Siggs practically play CMs

To be fair to Sheriff they worked very well as a unit with 10 men behind the ball. It's the ugly but necessary side of football for many teams who know they are inferior but not very many are actually that good at it; but when it works well people tend to remember i.e. Greece in the Euros.

Yet their speed of counter and good positioning/passing showed they were anything but.
If anything their own fear has been their undoing.

Actually I think the exact opposite... AVB is currently a negative coach. His track record in England proves that.

He's a young coach and no doubt still forming an identity of his own... Hope he eventually evolves into a more progressive (by that I mean attacking) coach

Teams don't get tired from not having the ball if they're just sat back deep and allowing us to have possession in places we can't hurt them. Everton were soooo tired from their first half exertions that they actually improved and saw more of the ball in the 2nd half

I feel that he's a bit of a surly character and it's manifesting in the style of football he plays., dullish.

The more he talks, the more he's getting on my nerves tbh, because none of it makes any sense whatsoever. Clear flaws in his gameplan, keeps repeating the same mistake over and over again yet he's trying to convince us (or himself) otherwise.
