Ballon D'Or - Complete shambles

It is calendar year because what
it is based on.
My god this is difficult
------

Yeah, it's certainly difficult to make the case that the award is only based on 2 half-seasons that make up the calendar year.

posted on 10/11/13

Well don't blame me for it sheriff blame whoever brought those rules in.

I'm not getting conned by this new obsession for calendar year stats. I only care about what both have done for their teams with trophies on the line for that year.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolute utter tripe, and this is exactly what i mean. Every single, possible, imaginable, excuse they can find for Messi they will use it. Now it's a new "obsession" for the stats for the whole "Calendar year", despite the award being awarded to the best player during, yes, the "Calender year".

To be honest mate, you might as well as just say

"HOW DARE YOU USE STATS THAT FAVOUR RONALDO, YOU MUST BE BLINKERED AND FINGER MESSI!"

Would have the exact same impact/meaning.

Absolutely incredible, that actually made me laugh, well done good sir, and these people dare call United fans, as well as Batmanu Ronaldo fanboys? are you for real? Look at the pathetic lengths you go to, to defend Messi.

Hypocritical bafoon.

Haha this was actually hilarious to read. So Batmanu is the fanboy? Despite his opinion being clearly the right one, and all you little Messi fangirls naming every bloody excuse you could possibly think of to defend his honour, how bloody pathetic.

So the Balon D'or, a trophy that is awarded to the best INDIVIDUAL ( Therefore completely ruling Ribery out ) over a CALENDAR YEAR shouldn't be given to Ronaldo, despite him being superior in every, way, shape or form this year?

Let's just look back through the excuses.

"But he's not won anything"

Neither did Messi when he scored all those goals, and Ronaldo won the La Liga. It was about goals then, though right? not about trophies, right? Ridiculous

"Ronaldo Didn't score when it mattered"

More champions league goals than Messi, Scored in More El Classicos. Scored two in two against United, two in two against Galatasaray, one against Dortmund, as well as scoring in the Copa Del Rey final.

Messi, well he was injured against Bayern, so let's all pity him and give him the award, ahh poor Messi, forced to play with a boo boo.

"Ribery won the treble so he should win it"

Well Sniedjer was an absolute standout player in his Inter team, and also guided his country to a world cup final,Ribery on the other hand, was hardly a stand out player, and didn't do much for his country on the international stage.

But Sniedjer was up against Messi, and Ribery is up against Ronaldo, so we different standards, okay folks.

"Messi is a better player"

Ahh, so he should win it, cause he's proven to be the best player in the past? Oh my god, someone please file a complaint as to why Pele, Maradona, et al don't have at least ten Balon D'Ors. No more voting, because the Messi fan girls say Messi is better, no point, just give it too Messi.

Like Screen said, if Messi is out for the year, give him it anyways, he'd have scored 300 goals if he wasn't injured.

Flipping, Hypocritical, pathetic, little Messi fan girls.

P.S I do not support United, you guys are just flipping stupid, Kamran a real stand out.

Imagine if Messi wont score
another goal this year and
Ronaldo would score another 20.
then in 2014 ronaldo has a lean
patch but messy score for fun.
Ronaldo ends the season with
much better stats than messi but
messi ends the year with much
better stats than ronaldo.
Hypothetical of course but if this
happens will the award be given
to ronaldo because he had the
better season. Hell no, I can
guarantee that the "better stats
for the year argument" will come
out. Double standards
--------

If Ronaldo outperforms Messi through the season, then he'd deserve it. It's that simple. And with his start this season, he'll likely do it.

posted on 10/11/13

I don't know how hard it is for people to understand.

Messi is marginally a better player than Ronaldo but Ronaldo had by far and away a better calendar year than Messi.

the OP is correct.

Calm down, son. You sound agitated. You're not a civil rights activist defending oppressed people. Ronaldo earns millions of pounds every month and bangs a super-hot girlfriend.

Sheriff John Brown

Its not about the season. If it is about the season why the heck do they award it in December? Does it takes 6 months for dumb national coaches to go through all the stats and figure out who is better.

It is given to the best player of THE YEAR. period

What is there not to get? It is based on a calender year. Fúcking hell.

Sound the alarms, we have an escaped patient on our hands, get him back to bed, before him he harms himself.

Okay, being serious, i get it, your argument was completely blown out of the water, and you got embarrassed, you don't want to let it go, so you try and change the topic, fair enough. Last ditch resorts, and all that.

But please, seriously, read back through both my posts, and tell me where i once stated that i firstly, feel bad for Ronaldo, or secondly Ronaldo has a tough life? I didn't, i simply commented, on the double standards, hypocrisy, and pathetic arguments, Messi fanboys put foward.

Crawl back in your hole, you're embarrassing yourself.

I say all this, despite the fact that i think you're one of the better posters on the Arsenal board, but you've made yourself look a total prat on this article.

And why should Ribera win it. Because his team won a treble???
I don't remember a united player winning it in 99. In fact none of our players even won the English award nevermind the ballon d'or

posted on 10/11/13

I keep hearing words like "hypocrisy" getting thrown around but I remember when Ronaldo won his single title with Madrid. It didn't matter that Messi had a far more individually productive season. I had never even heard of calendar year stats being compiled. It was all about the fact Ronaldo won the league while Messi didn't (at least, Messi did win the domestic cup). Now it doesn't matter Ronaldo has no medals - not even the Copa - and had vastly inferior seasonal stats. All that matters is the desperately regurgitated "calendar year" stats. How on earth is that not hypocritical?

Don't know about that. He was having a bit of an emotional meltdown so I'm trying to inject a fair dose of perspective. I have no problem with less effusively made points.

What are the criterias that should be used when selecting a player for the award? Give me ur unbiased and unhypocritical response.

Dont come up with the "over the season" argument. Its just bull

Ribery hasn't been the best individual, has he? Shouldn't even be in contention, never mind favorite. The award is for the best INDIVIDUAL. If a 'simpleton' like myself can understand that and you can't then I'm sorry, you are plain thick

Now I could counter this whole post, but sense I've already addressed pretty much every single point you've raised, previously, all I can do is ask, if there is a medical reason for your stupidity? Does reading simple statements, and comprehending them, come difficult to you?

You are actually making me feel bad about myself here, I don't take any pride in taking advantage of the disadvantaged, but this is exactly how you are making me feel.

Please! Learn to read, understand the flipping point being made, and realise you can't counter it, and stop posting.

Not saying goals is the be all and end all but Ribera has around 40 goals less than ronaldo. That is one massive margin. Quite a few premier league teams probably won't score 40 goals this season
