Have Bolton and Sheff Wednesday prospered as a result of Chris Evans presence?

Well Sam, you really seem to have the right man.

Lets see, Bolton: over a hundred million in debt and struggling. Wednesday: also in a dire financial and football state. If this is what the bust up between Rush and Clough was about Nigel should have chinned Ming the Merciless. Let me say I am far from impressed with this appointment.

When a position such as this is being filled then most of us will have never heard of the bloke. Now what we do is look at his background and at what clubs hes worked at. Now Bolton and Sheff Wed are hardly prospering with this man's work. Not very inspiring. Hoping someone finds something positive on him.

The last person we employed from Bolton was Phil Orange so the omens are not good.

Bolton and Sheff F Wednesday. I ask you. I on the other hand have international experience, having three times been in the running for the England manager's job. AND I met Niall Quinn on an aeroplane once.

Amateurs.

I don't remember him doing ANYTHING at Wednesday - and oh by the way, we aren't in dire financial state any more - shame about the football (wish I could see some)

Thought you must be in a dire financial state as you haven't sacked the man with no neck yet. Boro sacked the man with no lips and we sacked the man with (fill in whatever you think) even though they were doing a lot better than Mr Jones.

Milan Mandaric sacked Gary Megson when we were 3rd in League One, and ones was HIS choice. Can't see his patience holding out much longer though.

Trust the sycophantic 666 to try to obscure the fact that Rush has boobed. How much money (which the fans and GSE put in) will be wasted on this appointment. Serves GSE right if we finish up like Bolton and Sheff W. They could stop the appointment if they wanted to.

Oh, Ramdini.

You really have become a right pain in the nut sack this last few weeks. You started off with your dreary, pathetic 'Wally' jibes but I suppose that you have had to grudgingly concede that McClaren et al have got the team moving in the right direction (forwards as opposed to bloody sideways).

Now it's the appointment of the DoF/head of football operations that has rattled your cage.

Well, if this one turns out as badly as the appointment of McClaren, we're screwed.

Hello OOE

Yes, sorry about my negative take on both 666 and Sam Rush. I'll try to override it. But I still don't see why we need a Director of Football especially given the great success of the new Head Coach which I freely acknowledge and that Evans' legacy at both Bolton and Sheff Wed are not what you would write home about.

And I have made several recent very positive posts about the brilliant improvements SM and team have created. I just have problems with the constant destructive carping 666 indulged in for years, never once recognising the huge improvements NC bestowed on our great club.

However, chastened by your response above I will try to stay more positive. It's just that every now and again 666 gets up my nose like no other person on earth.

Honestly can you see anything cheering about appointing this guy given his recent history.

Devastated though I am to be overlooked on this occasion, at least we haven't gone down the nepotistic crook route favoured by some, where the appointee is completely unqualified for the position and where the aim is to fleece the owner and get a nice nest egg for the relative to fall back on when he comes out of jail in the future.

Who knows? We don't really have much idea what the role of this chap will be - whether it is simply to be the guy who does the legwork around transfers or whether he will have a more active role on finding the players. His background suggests the former, in which case the manager still identifies the potential targets and Evans tries to do the deal. If the players are brought in but aren't up to the task, that wouldn't be his fault but that of the head coach.

Ramdini - Just post how you feel, don't let others try to influence you. Especially OOE, it might be 6 months before he writes another post, you just never know.

You are a valued contributor.

Iwas, you are probably the most wonderfully obnoxious, opinionated dog breath it has ever been my good fortune not to meet - and I'm choosing my words carefully because I'm so fond of you.

Whereas Ramdini's anti-everything that is not showing Nigel Clough in a good light stance is understandable, your Quixotic tilting at everything you perceive to be a giant is just imbecilic.

Mind you, imbecilic is up from your usual standard. Keep it up.

The guy might do a decent job so I will give him a chance. You only have to look at how some football managers can be really successful at some clubs but failures at others. It is just that his track record so far doesn't inspire confidence.

As mentioned previously the current management team seem to be doing OK with recent acquisitions so it does beg the question as to why he is required.

Spart,

If it ain't broke it is IMPERATIVE NOT to fix it. I don't see what's wrong with the present set-up. The 4 guys we have brought in have been excellent. Whitbread, Wisdom, Cisse and Dawkins. Team strengthened no-end and seeing how much Buxton has improved due to competition for his place is a revelation.

If this guy comes in it may cost more than the cash cost. Any changes resulting are irreversible. Once you've done it you can't undo it. My view is - keep him out.

Ramdini - on the other hand, Steve Mc might find him a useful conduit to the board and, if he takes any flak away from Steve and allows him to concentrate on the day to day cioaching that he is widely regarded as being very good at, then I'm happy to have someone in situ.
