truly unbelievable
what? is was pretty close to him very nice reflex save but not unbelievable
(awaits some stupid comment about scousers or mignolet)
Not many have such quick reflexes. Certainly not in PL
It was a great save, the fact it was close to him is irrelevant as he shifted his weight to the left to give him a better position for any shot on goal, 'unbelievable' is probably too much, very good though and perfectly illustrates one of De Gea's key attributes.
De Gea's made some brilliant saves, not sure I'd put that one up there though - the dive makes it look more dramatic is all. He 'should' have saved that IMO

I've noticed that an awful lot of posters on here keep suggesting that whilst Suarez and Sturridge are both having individually fantastic seasons, they're not a great partnership.
Every time i read it, I shake my head. Their link up play has at times being absolutely mesmerising and up to they're both singing from the same hymn sheet.

You are right, Cech hasn't been as good compared to previous season's, but even putting that into consideration he still makes some game changing saves (ie from Draxler vs Schalke).

And as for keepers, its Cech

After being blessed with Hasselbaink and Gudjohnsen, any partnership is going to look pale in comparison

I agree which is exactly why they are the best 'partnership' at the moment. Like I said earlier I think Rooney and RVP are probably the best 2 players individually as a pair but their link up player in open play hasn't been that great IMO and nor was it last season.
Our ability to create through the middle this season is still a problem, 4 of all of Rooney's 9 goals and assists this season have been from set pieces.

Excuse me...
Begovic isn't all that. Cech hasn't been the same since his head injury, makes to many mistakes, though he was immense before. De Gea and Lloris are probably the top 2 in the League. That leaves Szczesny and Howard. Both of which I would say Mignolet is better than, even though his distribution is shocking.
And on the saves. The way I determine world class saves is; picture the shot taken is scored - from the GK's starting position, would you expect him to save the shot? If not, then it was a World Class save, if so, then it can be anything but World Class.
I should say;
'from the GK's starting position when the player makes contact with the ball.'
No need to take into account how well he positioned himself before hand as it's a barometer of how good the save was, not how good the goalkeeper is.

"Cech hasn't been the same since his head injury"
Sorry but that simply isn't true.

And that is why he is not the best goalkeeper. You can't play for a team that like to play out from the back.....and have shocking distribution! You threw your own spanner into the works with that comment!
Cech definitely suffered after the head injury, no question, although the past 2 seasons I think he regained his form and although probably not quite up to the pre injury form still very very good.
Probably a 9/10 before the injury, 7/10 after it and 8/10 last couple seasons.
His CB pairing then also helped, Terry/Carvalho were immense.

He had a bit of a wobble under Scolari and the start of the Ancelotti reign, but in the middle of 09/10 he hit top form and kept up the form until AVB came along with his high line. In 2010/2011 he was our best (and arguably the league's best) by some distance.
Under RDM and Rafa he was on top form, he has made a couple of error's recently but at the same time has made match saving saves (Schalke twice and Cardiff).
The head injury was in 2006 though, you say he hit form in 09/10 which he probably did but that's still 3 years where his form dipped and fully understandably.
I still think he's a great keeper and like you mention he's made some top saves this year and his one against Hernandez last season was incredible, but also on the other hand he has made some howlers, Basel, WBA and Newcastle come to mind.
What i was challenging was the bit that he hasn't been the same since then.
It took a while but under Ancelotti he was every bit as good as he was pre injury.
Yeah I agree that the "Cech hasn't been the same since his head injury" doesn't apply now. But like I said I have noticed more mistakes recently, maybe it's just a blip but it doesn't really matter, even if he turned $hit tomorrow you got a pretty handy Belgian.
