In that case, neither Keane nor Cantona were dirty for doing what they did either.

Fact of the matter is, Keane, Cantona & Suarez are all dirty, but fantastic, footballers.

If Cattermole was not involved in this "dirty" player talk then it should never have been mentioned.

I think the definition of "dirty" in Sports does means someone that tries to cheat/hold up play in any Sports game without good reasoning. We all have our way of saying that was a "useful" foul because a football team was breaking away but it's still got to be demanded as "dirty" because it's not a needed challenge.

Not needed, intentionally holding up game play, nasty can all be words associated with "dirty". Suppose it's just about your own opinionated definition rather than a set in stone one.

Cheating give you an advantage - the bite was not cheating, mental yes, but not cheating!

dirty to me is someone who goes out to deliberately foul and injure someone, diving is cheating

I wouldn't call Suarez dirty, I would say he is sly.

Dirty I would reserve for players who deliberately foul constantly, like Ramos, Mascherano, Vinnie Jones, that sort of player.

The kind of player who intentionally 'leaves a bit on his opponent'.

Suarez does random mad things rather than persistent fouling. He does cheat through diving (although has stopped doing this a lot compared to what he was like when he arrived).

The 'cheat' thing with Suarez often revolves around the hand ball World Cup incident, when in truth every player would have done the same.

well that and his constant play acting and rolling around

Kevin Davies is another dirty player, and Kevin Nolan.

Foul constantly and constantly in the ref's ear claiming innocence.

Suarez is always in the refs ear too.

Does that make Ivanovic dirty, because he left a bit in Suarez

Please don't turn this into a United vs Liverpool

Yes rave but other plays have been just as bad as Suarez at that if not worse, Drogba for example, and the cheat label hasn't stuck for them like it has for Suarez, which IMO all comes back to the World Cup incident.

Suarez is certainly on the top 10 worst in the Prem when it comes to niggling and diving etc, not defending him at all, but I think the fact he already had a reputation before he came here has influenced perceptions.

How wasn't it cheating? All be it, it didn't change the content of the game but it's still unacceptable for anyone to take a chunk out of someone's arm!

He suffered a consequence for taking a bite from someone's arm. For me, if you do a bad thing and then suffer a consequence for your actions, that is deemed as violating the rules of the game, which in any game, is cheating.

The fact he has also built a reputation for scent actions doesn't help his case anymore either. He won't get listened to, he will still be known for doing something bad over his quality of play. That's just the way it goes and he brought it on himself.

Yes I know but my office argument ended with "I can't wait for the end of the season and United are not in the top 4" delivered with throbbing vein in forehead!

Yes - I ended up laughing so much at the pure nonsense! "Its not cheating, he got punished" so that makes it alright then? Funny stuff

not sure i agree with that last bit, he has just acted a total and utter tósser from the moment he arrived in english football, Ashley Young is the same before you think its just a united fan having a go at a liverpool player, i actually hate Ashley Young, and i hope he never pulls on a red shirt again, unless its cardiff's or southampton's etc

Yes. Me and my old flatmate used to argue for hours, about anything at all really - not in a 'you're a twát way' but in a trying to one up the other.

It was good times.

Exactly Cantona and Keane were both worse in my book however that does not mean he's not dirty or a cheat (my definition of the words).

That is there position though. They are there to stop play, beak it up and start an attack up for there own team, wouldn't call it dirty.

I know I'm contradicting myself with my first comment on Cattermole but that was more of a pure banter joke rather than a serious intellectual post about them.

There job is to stop the play and win the ball. Sometimes they have to foul on purpose, they get booked for it, referee's aren't blind/stupid, they do know. The expression "take one for the team" is used for that.

Yes they will get banned, so will any player when they have the responsibility they do. When they do win the ball though, how good do the tackles look compared to lacklustre, wimpish challenges?

Suarez's situation is different because his offenses are out of the ordinary. I'm not saying that these actions haven't been done before, they have. But, I feel the roughness of the PL has lost it's touch over the last 10+ years now.

As well as that, times are changing. Jones would get booked in every PL game today for some challenges and would get sent off every 3, but back in his days, that's considered a great tackle to give the whole team spirit a lift.

But to be racist to a player, take a bite from someone etc is out of the ordinary rather than a strong bookable offence.
