Did we have a full strength defence today?

posted on 13/8/11

No,Nzonzi was all over the place, could not handle the high balls and crosses.Nzonzi and Hanley was the centre of defense.

ldr, I'm assuming it was a rhetorical question.

If not then here is an answer:

No, we sold our best centre back, Givet seems to get womens problems and Miles Anderson must only be considered good enough to pick up 15k a week as opposed to actually play...

Two defenders out injured and we have NO backup. My sons u10 team has more depth than Blackburn. Venkies are so f---ing cluesless that it beggers belief that they manage a multi-million pound business. The thieving bas----s should be investigated by the FA.

how can kean not sign a centreback when we don't any Kean has put us in a right mess

posted on 13/8/11

Kean can only sign people if he has the readies and it seems that Venkys are reluctant to part with money.

Part with money? They have £20 million pound left over after Jones and Kalanic were sold.

kean has the money and it should of been his first signing
before he did anything else if he didn't have any money
kean out

3/4 of our defence were out injured today, if Samba, Nelson and Givet were back, do you not think it would of made a big difference?

posted on 13/8/11

if all 3 players played today then i think we would of won today but the problem is jones was sold nelson was never going to be fit so any injury to samba or givet so todays game was always going to happen

It's a shame that Venkys weren't able to field their most expensive signing of the summer, but Premier League rules stopped them from playing Gary Neville's house ( or Casa P.J. as it is now called) at centre back.

Good to see no-one having a knee jerk reaction to today's game.

I don't think anyone would argue that the squad doesn't lack depth, particularly at centre half and up front, but the reaction to this defeat has been completely over the top. On the whole there were plenty of signs of progression with Goodwillie and Rochina showing glimpses of quality, while Formica's performance was very encouraging. Clearly the defensive pairing was woefully exposed and Kean needs to strengthen that department quickly. Likewise the midfield lacked steel but hopefully Petrovic will add some bite to the team. Overall I saw enough quality to give cause for optimism for the season ahead. Cue accusations of being a "VD"...

CC progression from when though?

Sam never lost to Wolves, nor Sparky or Incey Wincey...

Or progression by Kean, oh no... After the first 45 mins against Wolves last season we are now 4-1 down against them...

Progress?

posted on 13/8/11

So on that basis Rovers under Kean were 6 goals better off against united than we were under Sam?!

Progress in that our players looked far more comfortable on the ball than they did for large parts of last year. When Kean came in and tried to play a different way to Big Sam most of the players looked like fish out of water, whereas there were signs today that we have players capable of playing to that style. Formica looked to have a touch of class, likewise Rochina. Lots to work on but plenty to optimistic about too.

Surely the talents of Rochina and Formica is progression from last year?

We have Petrovic to come in as well, let's get somewhere near full strength and see how we get on.

posted on 13/8/11

Indeed, if you think United played at anywhere above 30% at Ewood...

Ah petrovic, a major coup according to kean. Such a fantastic player that we had to fight off the mighty vitesse Arnhem to get him. all those top clubs in Europe, and no one was interested at 3 million...

posted on 14/8/11

petrovic has to be better than emerton & pedersen they were very poor worst 2 players for us yesterday

posted on 14/8/11

Why does he have to be better?

By proxy of the fact they are premier league footballers then they're in the top 500 in this country...

posted on 14/8/11

I'm trying to give myself hope petrovic can't be any worst
than them 2 players. emerton & pedersen gave us nothing, anyone better than them

We have a lot of young players and the normal thing to do every season is to get a couple of good players and make a mix/blend of young old and new.At this moment in time we are going for loanees, free transfers and the odd little buy.It all depends on your goals and aims,if its the Championship then Keano and Venkys are going about it the right way.
