Rakitic is an option. 18 months left on his deal and seems to be stalling over new deal. Not cup tied either.

He's a goalscoring central midfielder too.

He'd be gettable in this window.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

i like Rakitic, think he's terrific, Antonio Candreva and Alessio Cerci are also good options for the wide areas, both creative and score goals

Goalscoring/creative CM is a must. Our midfield players simply don't score goals.
============================================

they haven't done for a decade though SE85, our goals have always come from our forwards and wingers, our creativity comes from out wide, which IMO is why we need a winger as no1 priority, trust me we need 2 CM's aswell but for me a winger is no1
----------------------------------------------------------------------
surely a CM is more important
yes a winger is too but our CM always seems to be second best against other teams

i can understand waiting to get a CM in the summer but in may be too late if we are not in the top 4

Donald duck ahead if cleverly would improve our team! At least a duck would tackle and get stuck in!

Under Moyes our fullbacks are supposed to be even more creative than our wingers. The wingers are supposed to tuck in a bit like this...

-------------------------DDG--------------------------
-------Vidic---------Carrick------Evans----------
Rafael----------------------------------------Evra----
---------Valencia----Cleverley---Young------------
--------------------Rooney----RVP---------------------

It is a form of 3-5-2 when in possession and with Baines there you can bet our fullbacks will be far more creative and will make more chances for the front 2.

Baines or Shaw, we need a very good left back who can cross the ball well as well as getting into the box and shooting (a bit like Smalling did last night in the first 5 mins of the game)

60m is a lot of money to spend on 3 good players, id much rather spend it on 1 or 2 world class players
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My point exactly, we don't need anymore decent players, we ones who are going to make a difference to the first team and how we play.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

we could get away with just buying fair to middlin' players when Sir Alex was in charge because he could get the best out of them, to compete with the best these days you either need a genius of a manager or a world class team, we have neither atm

He tucks in when both RVP and Rooney are playing. Watch the Sunderland game as an example when he came on and played much narrower.

There are other examples but the Sunderland one was a great one because it's easier for people to recall the pass he made to RVP.

I know i'm a Carrick fan and would say this but his passing was top notch. Time after time he spread the ball out wide to a waiting player. He even made a top class pass over the top to Welbeck.

The reason he was taken off wasn't because he was bad, it was because we didn't need a DM when chasing a game.

Moyes ALWAYS goes 3-5-2 in possession when he has 2 strikers on the pitch. Why do you think Carrick or Fellaini (whoever is playing) sits back and form a 3 men defence with the 2 CB's while the fullbacks push forward.

It's just a specific shape that the team set up with at certain times of the game. Me and Darren were agreeing on this the other day.

No he doesn't.

When we have possesion we always have two wingers out wide, so stop talking shiiiiit.

posted on 2/1/14

Rakitic has scored 9 goals from 22 games this season for Sevilla.

De Griezmann has 13 goals from 24 games for Sociedad.

Both would vastly improve us and Rakitic wouldn't even be cup tied either.

Next time RVP and Rooney start, watch how often our fullbacks get forward and act as wingers/wingbacks for us.

At Everton Baines and Coleman were his wingbacks and he used them to great effect.

I'm not disputing the fullbacks don't bomb on.

But a 3-5-2 isn't what we're doing. In a 3-5-2, the fullbacks supply all the width.

We have wingers on at all times. Just because they're no bloody good, doesn't mean they are not there.

We've not played anything close to 3-5-2 this season. No idea why you think we have.

2 wingers ahead of 2 fullbacks is NEVER 3-5-2.

When Carrick or Fellaini drops back to stay with the 2 CB's and the full backs bomb on and are the furthest forward (out of the with the wingers) it makes it a 3-5-2 formation.

I'm not for one second saying we start the game with a 3-5-2 (i.e 3 CB's) but during a game there are many formations played. I used to play at a high-ish level on the South coast and you'd be amazed how many formations are changed during a game.

Interestingly I saw an interview the other day with Fellaini where he says he may well end up as a CB. With his skills (he does have some!) he might well be a good CB option for us one day.

he might do, but he hasnt been sitting alongside the CB's so far in his united career, he's usually chasing the ball around like a dog in the local park
