HK is the worst wum on the site. He's too obvious. If anyone ruins that article it's him

Sorry to hear about Walcott, that'll really affect your title challenge. Although I don't think he's any good for England, it's still gonna be a blow for us at the world cup as well.

This will give opportunities to Gnabry and the Ox I suppose?

Hopefully you play the Ox. Townsend looked ok in the few games for England, however, I've not been impressed by him since.

Think the Ox would be a better option on the right for us if he can get some form up.

Yeah, think the reaction from most gooners shows you how gutted we all are, really. Guy was just showing us all what he can be like at his consistent best.

As you say, we have options on the wing, Gnabry has looked very promising, and the Ox is returning. Will take the Ox a while to get back into the groove though.

I'm not too fussed about Theo missing out for England tbh, I think Townsend and the Ox are better suited in their set-up anyway. He must be gutted though, he will be 28 before he (hopefully) makes his first World cup appearance.

This obviously opens up the door for Serge, however we really need to put Poldi back in the equation at this moment, as he is the most clinical finisher (and/or Theo) on the team now.
We can have the pace and dribbling in Santi and Serge on the wings, but we need somebody to put the ball IN the net. Theo is gone now, Poldi should have that chance to start.
I won't rate Ox now before he is really match fit.

Wenger just doesn't seem to trust Poldi, ronniec. Plus Cazorla plays on the left, can't see Wenger shifting poldi to the right. He's not a huge fan of the whole inverted winger thing

I don't know why Cazorla hasn't been tried out more on the right. That was his best position before he was moved into the middle.

Cazorla Ozil Podolski
Giroud

Think that can work?

Your squad depth is actually pretty good, to be fair, even though Walcott is a big player for you.

I guess the problem you have is that you get so many injuries so don't get the chance to really utilise that depth.

I know Tu.
Wenger shifting everybody to the wings (Cazorla, Rosicky, Ramsey, Wilshere) but just not start Podolski as our left wing, and that's beyond my understanding.
Not only we miss someone dares to shoot the ball (and shoot it with some accuracy and power), but also missing the direct low crossing from our left.

Not with Giroud.

posted on 7/1/14

Yeah but you don't have another striker.

posted on 7/1/14

Why not Fab?
For how long Giroud hasn't scored directly from a cross?
I still remember Poldi's crossing for Giroud's header against Schalke and his first EPL goal against West Ham last year. This is a true combination of a striker and a wing.
Since this is the Ashley Young thread, don't wanna have anymore out of topic discussion here.

I really don't see why not Darren, Cazorla is such a talented player, he can play pretty much anywhere apart from the striker. Also, it was my understanding Cazorla generally played on the left at Villareal and Malaga? Though I could be wrong.

Agree with you on the squad depth bit. In years gone by, when injuries hit us, Arsenal fans were forever cursing our injury luck, but this season I haven't heard much about that.

Our midfielders have been doing a decent job on the wings (we had no wingers in the early stages of the season due to injury).

We have been fielding pretty strong benches of late too, Poldi, Ozil and Mertesacker were all on it for the Spurs game. We have options. We have put ourselves in a good position RE squad depth this season.

Just our luck, when we have a good squad, City and Chelsea have stronger squads than us. It'll tae a bit of luck and naivety on our rivals' part if we are to win something this season, but it can be done.

At the start of the seasons, most Gooners wanted to see some improvement. Well we have definitely seen that, but us being top of the league for most of the season has changed our expectations a bit.

Also Darren what the f is going on at Old Trafford? Are United really not going to invest this month? It's got to be a smoke screen, surely.

From what I remember he played mainly on the right at Villareal.

At Malaga I think he played on the right and in the middle. Duda and Eleseu played a lot on the left when Cazorla was there.

Always felt right mid and attacking mid have been his best positions, even though he is good on the left.

Yeah agree with the rest of your post.

No idea what is happening at United. It's all a bit of a shambles at the moment.

We need to move players on before we can buy anyway as we've maxed our 25 man squad.

Getting loans and or sales for our players needs to be done before we can do anything as it's unlikely we'll deregister any of our players from the premier league squad - something overlooked by everyone on our board talking about January transfers.

Yeah, think we had that same problem last year, thankfully contracts expired and bids came in for all our deadwood.

Just took a quick peek at you board, you all seem pretty desperate Lamela on loan .

The main problem is (aside from the squad limit) I can't quite see players lining up to play under Moyes. You'll have to get by on stop gap players and hope to scrape a CL place. Or really throw the big bucks out, which I can't see happening either.

It's funny, Arsenal fans have been mocked for crowing about CL places over the years, but it was just a sad realisation that that was our level. It's the same for United fans this season, I'm afraid.

Of course, Arsenal could blow it yet again and finish 4th too

Santi, yeah I know what you mean.

Rob is just writing crap articles for comments. He's not stupid enough to actually believe it would happen.

I'm unsure how much of an affect Moyes as manager will have on us being able to attract players.

We are still a big pull for players and can offer big wages. It may not be enough to get the very best in the world, but it should be enough to get big improvements on players that we currently have in the squad - the name mentioned in the op being one of the best examples.

Our 18 year old from the under 21's is already better than him and our other wingers for fack sake. And Fletcher has come back from two years out and already looked more composed on the ball than all our midfielders.

Our squad isn't as bad as people make out, it needs improving but the manager is also making mistakes and unable to cope without our best players.

People have been saying even Fergie would make top 4 with this team (because they don't want to admit the manager has not done well enough), well he facking walked the league with this squad so that's clearly ballacks.

Yeah, Young is just awful. Can't see what Fergie was smoking when he bought him, never mind the fee involved. He's decent, but nowhere near Manchester United level.

Yeah, I was thinking the other day, United never really went for the world class players, even under Fergie. But it's going to take those players to get you back to the very top, as David Moyes is no Alex Ferguson (although you don't need me to tell you that ).

Januzaj has a lot of ability, do you see him being at that level one day? I haven't seen much of him.

If you scrape that CL spot, your best players will most likely stay - RvP and Rooney in particular (but given their tendencies in the past it's no guarantee). From there, you can build again. It may take a while, but that's the way it is now, you United fans are down here with the rest of us now

posted on 7/1/14

Young on his day was a good player for Villa, in fairness, albeit very inconsistent.

Even though the fee was ludicrous I can understand why Fergie would sign him as he was one of the better premier league players and probably thought that if he could get him to consistently apply himself we'd have a good player on our hands.

Sadly that's not happened and he's gone backwards since we signed him - started off pretty well, then got injured and has been crap.

Januzaj could reach that level I reckon. Has immense potential.

Agree with the rest of that. The problem we have is that unless we get really top players it's going to be very hard for Moyes to get us back to the top because I don't think he's got the ability to compete against the teams with better squads and doesn't appear to have a good system in place that could cater for that.

We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Tbf, I thought at the time that Young would be a good signing.

He has an immense cross on him (although I think he just lumps it in without looking most of the time), the whip he gets on it is very dangerous. Given your style of play (reliant on crossing) I thought he'd be a good weapon. But it hasn't worked out for him.

If Moyes gets a top 4 place, he's done extremely well imo. But he needs to use the rewards of that CL place wisely aswell, that will be the only way to get back on the road to being an elite club. If you waste cash on crap like Fellaini again, he needs to go.

posted on 7/1/14

Young's crossing is shiiite mate. Not as bad as Valencia's, though.

Yeah I agree with that. Fellaini was such a waste of money. I'd have rather we spent that on Baines instead.

The club will need to change their transfer policy if we want to sign top players.

It's a shame David Gill went at the same time as Fergie. I don't think the summer would have gone nearly as bad if he was still there.

There were posters on your board saying Valencia was better than Ribery once Major crash down to earth.

The most worrying thing for you now is that United don't really have a style of play. That Fellaini deal really looks like an idiotic, desperate decision by your club, Moyes doesn't seem to know how to use him.

You should be ok if he gets a few players of his own in, and develops his own style. But again, that's down to how he manages the current squad.

A lot to be concerned about at Old Trafford actually Never really thought about all your problems till now.
