What is considered a hammering?

It's weird, if we beat Sunderland 3-0 I wouldn't say we hammered them but when we beat Spurs and Chelsea 5-2 I considered that a hammering.

Depends on the game. Sometimes a team can be all over and control the opponent without the other team having a shot, but only win 2-0. That may be considered a hammering.
But a team my get 2 pens and a goal from free kick and win 3-0, so not really a hammering. Depends I think.

Not necessarily the amount of goals scored. For example, we hammered Tottenham in our recent 2-0 win and no statistics showed that.

A hammering is an absolute gap in quality more than a gap on the scoresheet.

City beat us the equivalent of a 2-1. And we gifted them a few. I'd say a hammering has to be 4-0 + Ideally always a clean sheet as it shows no weakness at any stage of the match.
