Yes mate, it was an unnecessary dig. Mind you, when you follow Scottish rugby these days, it means that you are rendered immune from any banter. For us, defeat is the norm, anything else is a bonus.

But that's my point. Hogg shot us in the foot with the yellow card. It was Garces who shot us in the head with the red. We were never going to win that one. Things just got worse with that piece of nonsense.

show - you feeling any more positive now you have a new coach in charge? After all it was only 12 months ago that you finished third in the 6N table!

It was written in the stars that Ireland were always going to win it for BOD.

That said, I think England were the better team, just that French game. maybe a touch of arrogance in that one was your undoing.

But, like I said, I'm a Scot, what do I know about rugby.

Definitely, even more so that they went into that last game knowing victory sealed it.

Yes that was England's mistake in Paris on the opening weekend.

Think France lost England the title with that but could have easily won them it with yet another late try. Terrible forward pass meant Ireland clung on.

As for the new coach, he has got to improve thing. It couldn't be any worse that with Jabba the Hutt.

FFS, how can anyone look at his selection policies this season and say any of it made any sense. Pi$$ing off TWO captains in one season, substituting your most effective player in 2 matches, and dropping them for the next game. And on Saturday, after your full back is sent off, leaving a full back on the bench for 80 minutes while a winger on his debut is run ragged trying to cover.

Are these the actions of anything other that a total numbskull.

End of rant.

What do you think for Scottish rugby between now and the next Six Nations, show?

Plus, anyone seen the team of the tournament? Agree with it? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/26603325

North Brown Launchbury

Can't say I noticed many other players enough to pass judgement. Those 3 though. Especially Brown!

I'd have had Burrell in for Roberts. Other than that, no big arguments.

As for Scottish rugby, where the hell do I start. Between now and the next 6N we could hardly get worse. Cotter is going to have a helluva job just to get us back to where we were a year ago. That numptie Johnson has pretty well destroyed team morale - especially within the senior player/leadership group (Brown, Laidlaw, Hamilton, Cusiter etc.).

The word on the street in Cardiff was that the no-show against England was closely related to the decision to ditch the captain right out of the squad. Then bringing him back for the French game "because the pitch suited him" left everyone totally bemused. It was the same feckin pitch as we played England on.

He's gone from the team, thank God, but he's been promoted 'upstairs'. If he interferes, I can't see Cotter accepting it for very long, and I fear we could be back to square 1 very quickly.

However, with all fingers and toes crossed I say In Vern We Trust.

O'Driscoll is a genius, the greatest no13 ever, but for me he wasnt one of the 2 best centre's in this competition, thats a sentimental choice, Burrell should definitely be in there

Interesting to see which way the pendulum swings with Scottish rugby then over the next year or so.

I'd be puzzled as well if that's the reason for leaving a key player out. The pitch suited him better against France? Are they having a laugh?

BOD is worth his place because of all the extras he brings. Leadership is just one these extra qualities. For years he, along with O'Connell have been the glue that has held the whole of Irish rugby together.

Example is another quality - ask anyone who saw the outcome of Scott Williams' 'hit' on him. Did that, or did that not lift the Irish team and demoralise the Welsh.

Then you look at his rugby contribution, the line breaks, the tackles, the orchestration of defence, the setting up of tries. The guy is worth his place in that team, no question.

His middle name is Gerald, and this is what I will now call him. He is not BOD, but GOD.

yes, but this team isnt actually going out to play a game of rugby are they? its just the players who performed the best in the tournament

It wasn't just the Kelly Brown decisions. Remember, he also dropped Richie Gray, and after Denton was just about the only player who fronted up against England he got hooked inside an hour and then dropped to the bench. Fusaro came in for one game as a specialist 7. I thought he did fine, but his reward was to get binned from the squad

Bizarre is a fairly tame word to describe it all, and in the face of it, how can any player, never mind the senior group, take the man seriously when journeymen like Wilson and Swinson. OK, 10 is still a big problem position but why not have another look at Jackson, although I prefer Weir as a player.

Then with your full back red carded, he left a full back on the bench for 80 minutes, while a debutant wingers had to run around like a headless chicken trying to do the best he could.

I think I am fairly safe to say that Johnson was an embarrassing liability.

There's a lot more to rugby than just playing a game. it is on such things that games are won and lost. Performance isn't just the scoring of tries or the winning of line-outs. The whole thing has to be considered, and on that basis, I didn't see a better 13 that O'Driscoll in this tournament.

I agree with you that Burrell should be in there, but in his club position of 12.

posted on 17/3/14

I would have Fofana at 12, Huget at 14 and Binny at 8 (even though he didn't complete the tournament due to injury).

Can't really have Burrell at 12 when all his game time was at 13.

All of his Saints game time is at 12. To have impressed as much as he did while playing out of position is quite amazing.

Looking at again though, I'd agree with you about Huget. Should be there on the wing ahead of Trimble.
