FFS, first year in a new league and he's getting slated!

Let's count our blessings.....he could be Soldado or Lamela!!!

Ozil is undoubtedly an excellent player, but as the season progresses, it becomes more clear that £42million was quite a bit above what he is worth. I would say he looks a £25-£30 million player. Very very good, but not in a class of his own.

Not in a class of his own? Does make me laugh how fickle these people are.
If someone said Ozil's just a good player when he was at Madrid a few months ago, the same guys would throw a fit.
It seems they judge players purely on form.

I would say the same about him then and now. He is a really good player, however I think his impact and importance to arsenal is overstated in the euphoria of finally seeing wenger buy a play who cost over 15million.

I know its not the same value wise but look at Mert and Kos in their 1st season. Many on here wanted them shipped back and rival fans were laughing at us....now look at them...the best partnership pair in the league....

Give him time.....with high price tags comes high expectations. Lets see what he is next season before we call for his head....

Ozil has unreal dribbling ability, we need to see more of that. His passing as been second to none so far.

That £42.5M spent has been the best thing Arsenal have done for many, many years! It has uplifted the players, the fans and will even help attract other world class players to the club!

I expect the amount of shirts sold have helped recover a lot of his fee already!

He was average against villa.

I don't think he's a big fan of giroud though. So there's hope for us.

He's basically just an ugly version of Arteta.

Good at passing sideways but nothing else.

I'm joking of course. Germany's best player and we're top of the league, of course he is worth 42m.

Well we could have spent £30m on Lamela or £27m on Fellaini, so I would say £42.5m has proved to be a bargain.

If you could go back in time and influence the decision to buy him would you spend the money on Özil or not spend the money? Think the answer is always buy Özil.

Well worth the money, and a joy to watch.

Having a time machine and deciding still to buy him would not make him worth 42million, it would mean arsenal have decided to overspend twice. Or once, Im not really sure. Rough guess, where do you think arsenal would be in the league if they hadnt bought him?

posted on 14/1/14

Yes it would. If he wasn't worth £42m with 6 months hindsight you wouldn't pay £42m again. I think he is well worth the money. I would have paid more if I had to. Great player, a joy to watch, and worth every penny.

Worth every penny.

Its not easy valuing players. Is it from production? How about marketability? How do measure return on investment?

The fact is buying Ozil has sent a message to the rest of the world. A bigger one than buying Suarez would have. Suarez would have been a great signing but one that the rest of the world have shrugged as a big transfer in the premier league. Suarez doesn't have the global profile of Ozil because he has never played in the champions league.

We bought a player in his prime from the biggest club in the world. He is the biggest football name in Germany and he plays for a country that has a very good chance of winning the world cup. And he plays for Arsenal.

Worth every penny.

He is worth every penny, he's not even playing anywhere near his best and still getting assists for fun and making the difference.. we'll see the best of him next season. And for the whole impact he had on the club he was worth much more than 42m.

Bargain. Especially if the positive influence of his signing was the catalyst to us winning the league.

What I was suggesting that YOU having a time machine and deciding to buy him again would not make him worth 42 million

Why wouldnt it? There is no exact science behind it so it is a very subjective question.
Just because you dont think he was worth it doesnt make it true.
