Fabien Barthez > Roy Carroll > De Gea

I dont remember him playing any PL games. Playing is not the only way to get used to pace and style of the EPL. De gea's problems are the crosses in tho the box and long shots because the playing style of La liga is different to EPL. there are loss of crosses into the box and long shots when United play as well. Because Lindegaard has trained with the squad for 8 months he is more equipped to handle crosses and long shots. He also should have a better communication with his back line because of the greater understanding.
Lindegaard is more used to pace and style of the EPL than De Gea.
lots of crosses into the box
cant believe sir alex didnt go for sketenburg, experienced and everything, now he complains de gea`s young and that, he new that, before he bought him,now deal with him, this guy is going to cost us dear ,he dont even look like a keeper.fergie`s biggest mistake
Another thing to consider is that he may have been with us for 8 months but he was out injured for most of that time, so hasn't trained with us as much as you think

I think what you are implying is that we should stick with De Gea. I have faith in De Gea as well. I wand Lindegaard feature in this part of the season because it will protect De Gea. The reason De Gea got the backing of the team, manager, pundits and fans even after two clangers is mostly because his mistakes didnt cost us anything. If his mistakes cost us a couple matches in near future everyone will get on his back. If he lost confident he mite not recover.
In all honesty I would have preferred lindegaard to have started. From what I've seen he's a good keeper and wouldn't have let us down. He would have saved those two shots that de gea has let in but if he had made the same mistakes he wouldn't have had the stick de gea's getting as everybody knows de gea is vds's replacement. De gea could have been gradually introduced to english football which wouldn't have been so high profile.
I just didn't want everyone to get bogged down on who has more experience as there is nothing to choose between the two in that area! If anything de gea is the more experienced.
GIve the lad a chance..aged 20, new to the club, country, culture and PL. As someone pointed out he has not cost us any points yet. The WBA goal came from a mistake by Fabio trying to run with the ball in an area of the pitch he should not have and getting caught in possession. Yes the keeper should have saved it but didn't . Big deal, he is learning and will need to do so fast. The pressure to keep goal for United is immense and will get cranked up a few notches over the coming weeks when we play all the top sides.
It also goes to show how important a reliable number 2 is and we have one there for sure. Also Tomas K. never let us don. He had one very dodgy game at Blackburn but he is a decent enough keeper too, probably not UNited no. class. It still amazes me however that neither United nor Arsenal wanted to take Given for 3 or 4 years.
I agree with all that especially Given. That still surprises me.
I expressed many times (in the close season) that De Gea would NEVER make an EPL top level keeper. The kind of mistakes he is making (and will continue to make) are the kind that cannot be coached out of a player.
It doesn't matter how many games he plays in the EPL they will never go away.
SAF so often gets it right but he should have stuck to his original idea and gone for a more reliable keeper(and from a less flamboyant league).
Neuer, the CSKA stopper or VDS's national replacement would have been a far safer, albeit less media crazed, decision
Iberians do not good goalkeepers make.
Me- not convinced you are right. Only time will tell. SAF had him watched for a long time but United's goalkeeper coaches too. Anyhow Neuer wanted Bayern Munich. The CSKA lad would however have been interesting.
Lets wait and see how he performs. No doubt he has been put on a weight gaining/muscle building regime and is eating raw steak as we speak!! I really rate Lindegaard from what I have seen from him so am not that worried if D.de Gea gets pulled at some point and has to spend sometime in the reserves.

City wont sell to united. Given is a decent keeper but De Gea has more potential. Im sure SAF's plan was to get him early and coached him into a world class keeper like VDS
Sorry I meant I was surprised top clubs didn't go for given, like arsenal. I'm happy with de gea and hope he stays with united for many years along with the twins, jones, smalling and evans. Should be a great defensive unit for a long time

Ur point doesnt make any sense. Great keepers are not born like that. It require some natural talents like quick reflexes and agility but keepers have to be coached into becoming great players. De gea has raw talent and problems in his game can be coached out.
To ur bout ur point about other keepers, u cant please everyone can u. Neuer's mistake in the first match cost them the match. When Stekelenburg was mentioned first very few wanted him. There were many on these boards calling for Neuer or De Gea. I agree with them because they have more raw talent. The thing about young keepers is that they make mistakes.
Its true, just look at hart, he makes mistakes too.
The worst thing for goalies is that mistakes are more high profile. Its been a hard start for de gea but I'm sure he'll come good. Most teams will now be trying long shots, like wba yesterday so I'm sure he'll get plenty of practice, but to be honest I'm not sure many will even reach him as united defenders/midfielders will be alert to this and try their best to protect him.
