Agreed. What makes it even worse is Albrighton was on the bench. Apparantly he rates Heskey of him on the wing! Real confidence booster for MA!
BECK knows that he will only have a short leash before the fans are on his back, Im surprised that he played Heskey, and kept Albrighton on the bench.
Same for Ireland - he was raving on about him in the frendlies then sticks him on the bench !!
The charitable view is that Eck maybe thinks that too much is being expected of the youngsters like Albrighton, so to relieve pressure he plays the senior players in the first match. We'll know by whether or not he continues this policy over the next few matches or moves Albrighton and others into being first team starters.
It's not a good start is it, none of that if we score more goals than them approach we win. I'd say tactically, Eck was inept on game 1. If he does that at paradise, he's in trouble on many fronts. Crikey, this is worse than GH. Eck said he had to hit the ground running. I think he's just fallen out of the helicopter and smacked face down on the tarmac.
It is frustrating. As much as we lamented GH and his poor results, one thing is certain, he was starting to get Villa playing football. Given a season or two longer, we might have actually seen a Villa team that could pass and move effectively and not just rely on backwards passes, tough tackles, long balls over the top to Bent etc.
Only problem with GH was he was trying to change things too fast, when the team had already been through turmoil. Think if he'd stayed we'd be looking at good football with younger players, a good position and a future to look forward to.
There is a third way. We might not have the personnel yet to play triangles to our hearts content, but we also don't need to play blouse rubbish either. We need to put the talent we have on the pitch and let it express itself, and let the less talanted players do what they have to. It's a tricky mix, but it should be tried. Ireland and Makoun need to play instead of the oil tanker, peskey off the pitch altogether. Give it a go Eck, it may work and at least we can say we tried to play footy.
