Not quite true mate, United, who whilst not currently doing that well, won the prem with all these English players playing quite a lot if fit Rooney, Carrick, Young, Cleverley, Smalling, Jones, Welbeck, etc.
----
And to make my point. If offered those players, which would you take?
No more than 3 max I bet. And a lot of those mentioned are squad players.
Infanct only Rooney when fit, and Carrick were key players for Man U last year
"though I'm struggling to see how a talented kid from Burnley is going to settle any quicker than a talented player from abroad. Take language and culture out and he still has to adjust to the PL so it's not really a short term solution."
You are taking the cultural factor out of the equation.
Consider Lamela, who has being struggling with both aspects (and he is intended for the longer term) .
I'd still prefer a foreign player with PL experience though...such as Benteke
Which was the case with Saha and Nelsen.
I assume the stop-gap is definitely for Defoe, and possibly LB (I doubt Sherwood will recall BAE) .

In actual fact, i'm going to backtrack a bit and say that i dont think one statement fits all. There are examples of foriegn bargains and foreign flops, as well as English bargains and English flops.
I wouldnt say that foreign players give better value though. And i would certainly say that buying foreign in this particular window carries a bigger risk than buying English, as we need players to make an impact now - not give them time to settle in etc.
I also dont think its a time to buy from lower leagues. But i understand this really restricts potential buys - but all buys must be the right ones - not panic ones.
Trust chicken to disagree for the sake of it.
Lamela and soldado are not in the side. So how can they be the weak link chicken ?
Have another think and then come back with something valid

Bearing in mind Tim almost certainly hasn't said he oly wants English players...........
I'd agree, PL experience and ability is far more relevant than nationality.. Bale did alright and he was a foreigner

================
Firstly, how ironic that you say that line, after you previously tellling me:
"he has played in every game that he has been available/fit for since sherwood has taken over"
And secondly, that is my whole point, Chronic . By not being in the side kind of backs up the point it has not been the best £56m spent.
Think about your replies before hammering away at the keyboard, yeah....
Plus, did you not read my second post immediately underneath it? Come on, what holes do you want to pick out of that one?

hilarious chicken.
however you have still not explained adequately the logic of how a player that is not in the side can be the weak link.
by very definition, the weak link actually has to be playing.... (or managing I suppose).

Isn't it obvious?
The fact players are not in the team, generally indicates that they are considered "weak links" or should i say "weaker" links than those who ARE selected. If they were the main men then they wouldn't be bench warming would they?
Come on Chronic, this isn't rocket science stuff here
He's Arry reborn, just without all the flaunting to the press.
Historically managers tend to go for players that speak their native tongue, so it's not that surprising.
I'm happy to go for English players as long as they're good, and we mix it up with skillful foreign players.
