7 Wins to go....

Last season we took 15 points ftom out last 17 games during "that" run. If we did the same again we would end on 81, 2 more than hull ended on last season.

Good point trish, even with a major collapse there is every chance we would scrape over the line

I don't think 81 points will be enough for automatic this year. One of Burnley and Forest will bag more than that, and QPR certainly will.

The relegation battle was incredibly tough last year, but I can't see the points totals down there being so high this time around. Therefore those points have to go somewhere else in the league.

It's probably best for us if the teams below us get dragged into an almighty and high-point-scoring playoff scrap between many teams.

Agreed DM, I would be surprised if we went up on 81 points so I've stuck with 87 as my benchmark. Still it's good to know that a monumental collapse would see is achieve more than Hull did which could give us a chance

With the likes of Blackpool, Doncaster, Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Yeovil still to play at home you'd like to think there is 6 (min 5) wins just from them

2/5 to win the league with Paddypower. Not quite as good as the 4/7 Cardiff were at a similar stage last season, as I feel they were a better side, plus the chasing pack were weaker than QPR in my opinion.

Well here is the thing, last seasons championship was poor. So much so that hull got promoted with 79 points which is a record since the championship began.

We are 3 points better off than Cardiff were after 29 games and are on an unbeaten run only bettered by 1 team since 1951.

I would say we are a better side than Cardiff last season even if they had a couple of star individuals that we don't

I always work on 92 points to guarantee promotion, which is 2 points per game. Only the top 2 are currently in that form. That would mean us achieving something like 7 wins 5 draws and 5 losses over the next 17 games.

Of course there are a number of sides who are capable of going on a phenomenal run like we're on now. The good thing about being top, however, is that at least 2 teams would have to have a run.

If our form collapses then we only really have ourselves to blame, but a reminder of what we did last season proves that it ain't over yet!

Looking forward to the coming weeks however i think our winning streak will probably end @ Florist a week on Saturday.

Yep, I'm not looking forward to that one. Billy knows how to set up against us and hit us on the break

Lets look forward to it, its a game between 2 teams on song, both chasing promotion and a "not a proper" Derby

I hope its Tuesday though so we get an extra few days off

Philbert - you're not alone in thinking our run will come to an end at Forest, I just hope we don't lose but our recent record there makes me think we can get a point. Ten would do me anyway, I'm not greedy 👍

As Strett says, "chill". You've done the ard work now sit back and enjoy it. It's just a matter of who comes second now.

Incidentally I thought I’d have a quick look at our points tally at this stage the last two times we achieved promotion to the Premier League and from League 1.

In that season in League 1 we’d achieved 67 points from 29 games. That’s 1 point more than we have presently. However, we were just about to embark on a run where we got 11 points from the next 8 games and 16 points from the next 12. We ended up on 96 points.

The last time we went up to the Premier League we had 58 points from 29 games. That’s 8 points worse off than we are now. We did, however, rally quite strongly from here and went on a 14 game unbeaten run, winning 9. We got promoted with 92 points.

Proves nothing of course, but I’m just trying to give myself some mathematical reassurance.

And who did when finish runners up to that season? - Portsmouth, managed by Del-Boy Redknapp.

Be nice to have him finish runners up to us this time.

I’d actually thought about that before Fox_14 as there are certain parallels with this season. At that time Portsmouth had been bought by Milan Mandaric and, with significant investment, Harry was doing his usual thing of throwing money around like confetti. I think, from memory, they signed Paul Merson up on a generous contract. We, by comparison, had recently gone into administration and were under a transfer ban.

This season Harry has his parachute money and has just signed about 4 strikers. We have had to tighten our purse strings and largely look for players that won’t attract a transfer fee. Like that season we’ve had to manage with a strong, but relatively small squad and hope that we’re not too unlucky with injuries and suspensions.

I would be happy with the same outcome at the end.

The fat lady's been booked in, but there's still the chance she could get laryngitis between now and May...
