half of probably the best centre back partnership in Premier League history.

Igor I did say 'probably'. Could you name me a better centre back partnership in the Premier League?

no he cant. Rio and Vida probably the best ever in the Pl

We need to replace him.

More money to spend in the summer

It's close between them and Calvalho/Terry.

Great player but apst his best so this is a good move for him and the club. Move Rio ,Evra and Giggsk on and let Moyes build his own side. Its looking lie a busy summer for the club.

RBW - It has been confirmed by Sky Sports News unfortunately. I hope we get someone like Papadopoulos. Him and Jones at CB would be immense. I wouldn't mind Mangala as well

I think he was a PL great at CB much much better than Rio.

Rio in his prime was the best of the prem era

I heard Barca want him aswell.

Rusty6899 (U7079) - Papadopoulos is a very good defender considering he is only 21. I haven't seen him much since his injury that ruled him out last season.

Chiellini isn't a bad shout but I doubt he ever leave Juventus. I like Hummels but I can see him being at Barcelona since they are looking for a centre back. Left back is going to be a problem for us.

Doesn't even bother me that Vidic is leaving, he was a beast in his prime but he's past his sell by date! And he's too injury prone. United needs a bit of fresh blood in! #NewEraMUFC

As has been said, it's another player we have to replace. Which is annoying.

He's not what he was, but he's still probably better than what we have.

Interesting to see who we bring in.

I don't think Evans or jones up to replacing him at the moment on a full time basis.

It's not just the player but the leader United are losing here... That aspect might be hardest to replace, seeing as Rio and Giggs are pretty much at the end.

That leaves Rooney

If vidic is being released then this gives no excuse not to let evra go this summer because there's no contest who's better ATM and who's more of a leader.

If were willing to let vidic go, evras gotta follow him out the door.

Rio was widely regarded as the best CB in the world for 2-3 seasons. To say that Vidic was much better than him is wide of the mark in my opinion.

I'm surprised people arnt making more of this situation tbh

Vidic wants out potentially because he's frustrated nobody at the club has discussed his contract situation

We're losing our captain because he wants to challenge himself again?

Something isn't right at OT. If people think he's over the hill at his age then I'd point you to Chelsea's captain.

Personally, I'm not happy about this whatsoever.

This really isn't a good sign.

Whilst I will be sorry to see him leave, I fully understand the decision. He has started about a seasons worth of football matches in the last 2 and a half years. Do you continue to pay him his 100k+ a week wages, or promote Jones as a regular CD first teamer and bring someone else in?

For me, Jones needs to be playing more regularly now. Would Vidic be happy as a back-up player? I doubt it. For me the move makes sense to all involved and I expect a move to Italy will see him prolong his career by an extra year or two.

You're missing my point

He's not leaving because he wants a fresh challenge. He's leaving potentially because he's frustrated with the way he's being treated.

To me, that isn't a good sign

I'm not missing your point. He is leaving because he hasn't been offered a new contract. Which I suspect is due to the fact he hasn't played enough football in the last 3 seasons.

Why announce he is leaving at the end of the season in February?

Why not before the last game? Why not just say he's sitting down and discussing a new contract in the Summer?

In our current predicament, our club captain announcing that he's leaving at the end of the season in February isn't a good sign for me whatsoever

Macca, his agent said in January United offered him a new contract. He then said he would make a decision about it, which he has.
