Pretty sure you can. Is there no manager mode/career or something?
And have you tried a range extender for your wifi?
Ignore that, didn't read the article properly.
There is a manager mode and one you can create a player and improve him season on season. You have to use the right analogue stick to flick between the different game types
Hi mate, I've had these problems with loads of mates before, should be an easy fix.
Get yourself a long range Ethernet cable of amazon - never pay more than a fiver Including postage - which'll let you plug it directly into the router.
My house has a tiny hole in the boiler cupboard that was perfect to feed the cable through from upstairs to downstairs where the router was - yours may be similar.
And you can play career mode offline (player or manager), just look for the tabs on the right of the 'home' screen.
Thanks bloodred. I haven't had a console for donkey's, and if there is a way I just haven't been able to work it out. If I try to go into career/manager mode, the game just tells me I can't because I'm not online.
Re the wi-fi signal, I've been trying with ways that don't require me to make new electrical fittings. The problem is that the internet is hooked up on the top floor and I haven't got a socket on the second floor landing (which is really tiny), so the only place I could put the range extender is inside one of the bedrooms, from which I'd still have trouble getting the signal to travel all the way downstairs. My neighbour lent me a type of range extender that sends the signal through the electricity system (sorry, don't know what these things are called in English), but for some reason it won't work at home even though it works perfectly for him. I suppose I'll eventually have to try with a conventional range extender and fit a new socket or some other kind of fix, but I wanted to avod myself the hassle.
If the 'hole' is not there or impractical, get yourself these things called home plugs. Basically, they feed the Internet through your mains, so you just plug one in the TV room and one in the router room, connect it up and you're set. The speed's probably not going to be as good as WiFi, but you'll still get more than enough to game no problem. I'm using it now for my 360.
OK, so it looks like home plugs don't work at yours for some reason. That's strange.
What exactly does the message say when you go on career mode?
Sorry penguin, hadn't read your post. Yeah, if I can't sort it out any other way, I'll do something of the sort you suggested.
Re playing career, mode, as I said, it automatically check the connection and doesn't let me go any further.
I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, but I haven't been able to work it out, so any further info would be appreciated.

That's very weird. It definitely lets you play offline, I've done it before.
I think a message is coming up, wanting to check the connection, but it's not necessary for you to play and maybe it appears to you that it is?

Yeah, it is weird. My neighbour's more of a handyman, but it's got him baffled too - he reckons it might have something to do with the sort of sockets I've got at home, but I'd rather find another solution before changing them as, even then, I don't know whether it would work.
My kid's Xbox settings are in Spanish, but I'll check the exact text of the message, translate it and get back to you.
Cheers.
Wait, are you trying to play 'seasons' mode cause that, despite the name, isn't career mode. I got confused by that the first time I saw it
My internet is gone since last Tuesday (storm took a tree down which took a pole out) but I've used fifa since. It tells me there is no internet and gives the option of checking the connection or going ahead and playing.
Is it a 360 or Xbox one? 360 should definitely work
At the top the tabs are 'home' 'play' 'customise' and something else.
Go to the 'play' tab and go to 'new career'
When it prompts your connection to be checked, just press 'continue anyway' or similar. Make sure you save the file, though.
when you get wi-fi and stuff IOAG, I'll give you my username and I'll play you or your kid on FIFA

Pretty sure you get better speeds than through WiFi with those Penguin, I know my brother does, considerably.
There's no reason they shouldn't work IOAG, you have to sync them properly for them to work don't you? It's not just a case of plugging them in and away you go?
@Melton,
Home plugs are excellent, I picked up a pair for £25 and they work really well. With regards to syncing, I only had to plug one, then the other then press a button on each to sync. Took about 3/4mins.
Sorted! Penguin, you sussed it out for me. Something as simple as "Seasons" vs "Career mode". Suppose the game should come with a warning about letting 20th century dinosaurs play with 21st century technology.
Thanks everyone for your input. Still to see about getting the signal fixed - everything in due time.
Couple of things
1) The menu system on FIFA is stupid, until you understand it. Everyone i know has had the same problems
2) The stuff over the plugs is dependent on the wiring in the house. I tried some once, during the day with few electrical items being used it was fine, good signal and everything. However at night with some lights on and other things on like TV etc they stopped working. What i will say though was my house was over 200 years old and i imagine the wiring hadnt been updated or changed for a good 60-70 years

Speeds aren't better when it's my bargain basement home plugs versus a virgin super hub
Plus there was no syncing for mine, literally just plug and play. There may have been a code I had to enter but it was simple as he'll.
