Rooney would have been sold at the end of last season. United would have gone for Ronaldo, Cavani, maybe even Suarez and would have got them too.
He would use the money to try and buy Rooney back.
And would Chesea have paid him that obscene amount of wages currently being reported it the gutter press.?
We also would not be in 7th and probably had Ronaldo or Bale
One things for certain, we wouldn't be 7th.

And not fix the midfield first?
Would have been the damn risky.
Maybe Benzema, SAF always had a soft spot for him
and congrats for getting 4 actual replies before someone mentioned the current situation rather than answering your question.... We are progressing

Goes to show how difficult a job a United manager would have today.
If Fergie was still here, I think he would be at PSG rather than Chelsea. Jose didn't bid untill Moyes had joined
Also I read in the papers that PSG were going to pay him 300k after tax so it must be true
Seriously though, Fergie said Rooney wouldn;t be leaving in the same breath that he said he asked for a transfer
Hardly ever gets a mention that
If Fergie was still at Utd then this would have just been another good decision by an excellent manager.
I reckon Ronaldo would have been back, didn't sign a new contract until after the retirement news broke.

Dunno Macca but I'm pretty sure he'd crossed a line with Fergie, and that generally only ended one way.

It was still a contradictory comment from fergie at the time though if you listen to it all
United would also be in the top 3

Why would he leave a bigger club, with a better team, more money and a better climate for the old club he chose to leave... the only reason that was even news was because its what football agents tend to do to increase wages.
If you think Fergie would have sold Rooney to Chelsea, you need your head examined
