If the outrage is creeping out to that parish, the game will have to be postponed.

Hi RDBD..............................At the moment it seems confined to Kiev, but such a volatile situation has potential to spread like wildfire!

Only needs a minor bit of state brutality in other places, for the outrage to go national.

If the trouble escalates too much, and the game gets called off, I reckon Dnipro will have to pull out of the competition anyway.

Genius,

I was under the impression that unrest had already been spreading across the West towards Poland?

With protests breaking out in pockets across that part of the country.

This won't remain confined to the Capital.

"If the trouble escalates too much, and the game gets called off, I reckon Dnipro will have to pull out of the competition anyway."

Not with UEFA corporate greed.
Those games will happen somewhere, to ensure the sponsors get their 2 x 90 mins worth of TV advertising.

They moved sharpish to relocate the Kyiv fixture did they not.

What is the essence of the aggro, beyond all the usual corrupt politniks ??

Is it a retain/maintain links to Russia vs a join the EU debate ??

That seems the crux of the matter.

Good old 'Cold War' style battle lines being drawn.

They currently have a trade agreement with the EU (possibly as a pre cursor to future membership) that accounts for nearly 30% (and growing) of their trade. Their partnership with the Russians accounts for only 23%.........

Putin is desperate to retain a strong tie with the Ukraine, however only 1/6th of Ukraine is Russian with a further 1/6th also speaking predominantly Russian.

4/6th's of the population are against further integration with Russia.
However the gripe has been with a government loaded with ex politburo & former members of the communist party.
The President is a close friend with Putin & is a hard liner, which us why the demonstrations continue. They majority of the country want him to resign too.

The Galloping Major........

I fear you may be right, and with Ukraine bigger than France and a population of over 45m, it is a frightening prospect if the violence spreads outside of Kiev!

Bit of a literal reverse though (more EU nations between their boundaries and the EU NATO members) .

Indeed it is.

I was reading earlier that the Crimea will potentially look to separate from the Ukraine if there's a political collapse, with it being very Pro-Moscow.

Thats just one facet of the issues ahead. This crisis will only worsen. Battle-lines are drawn you suspect. Yanukovych isn't going anywhere, anytime soon.

Should we be thankful the aggro is not based on age-old cultural/regional enmities like in the Balkan region.

Yes, its an awful situation in the Ukraine at the moment.

I just hope spurs get the right result and get out of there PDQ.
Get home safe and sound and the supporters remain safe.

I think the only reason these kinds of protests don't happen in the uk is because we are completely passive. Our gov is made up of a bunch of ultra rich guys who all went to the same school. Our society is completely dominated by tje rich. Tje difference in Ukraine is that they take action. You would see deaths if we took our demonstrations as seriously.

"I think the only reason these kinds of protests don't happen in the uk is because we"

- Do not know famine or pestilence.

- Have a standard of living far better than most.

- Can vote for our political masters without fear of terrible personal retribution of any kind.

We're just as enslaved by the elite as they are, we're just better kept and distracted from it all.

We don't live in the Matrix.
Nor is there some shadowy elite cabal conspiracy pulling the strings.

As the phrase goes : you get the government you deserve.

Yeah we're really enslaved... Life can't be perfect for everybody. Fact is you have to work hard to get what you want.
