Yes, you either need a VPN client running on a mate's machine in the UK, or a VPN service (many around, very reasonable - less than £5 usually, some are free, although quality varies) or a DNS spoofing service.

I'm in Singapore, use a VPN service and watch Sky and BBC without a problem. Have even got Now TV working, so I don't have to hook up the laptop to my tele.

Some ISPs over here even offer the service as part of your internet package.

Install the hola unblocker chrome extension. Change your location to UK. Enjoy iPlayer.

I'm currently abroad and also having problems accessing iplayer, but reluctant to pay for a vpn. Attempted proxy sites, vpn and manually changing my IP.

Does the hola unblocker for chrome work with sky go too?

Bestukvpn.com

It's free and doesn't slow down your Internet. You just have to setup a pptp vpn with the instructions provided, which on Windows takes all of two minutes.
