Defence.

A solid defence and a striker that contributes 25 goals minimum that is how you win the league

I understand your point, I think once against we have an imbalanced side.

Previously we were all attack with a comedy defence, now our attack is a joke; far short of championship quality.

If our defence was like it had been in the past we would be seriously struggling at the moment.

However, they have been our stars and won so many games for us

Unfortunately our attack has just been pony and even more so with no Walcott.

How are we expected to penetrate the big teams?

With a perfect defence you can't lose a game. But you cannot win one either.

Attack is obviously more important.

Goals win games.

If you have a pony attack you will drop too many points, in 0-0/1-1 draws and 1-0 loses.

This. We're either great at the back and crap in attack, or vice versa. Balance is the key and this is something we can't get right at the moment.

Do you think it is time they invented something in between defence and attack? Like in the middle? Mid something we could call it.

In the league I think us and Chelsea have the best defence.

However, we have poorest attack out of the top 4

heresy paul

a defender's job is to defend
an attackers job is to attack

WTF are you on about? an inbetweener is supposed to inbetween?

We have the worst attack in the top 8 and I am not lying

Take Liverpool, their strikers win them games, but it will be down to their defence they didn't win the title.

Goals win games and gets 3 points. Defence stops goals and can get a point. Attack for me.

I don't think it's the worst in the top eight but it's one of wengers weakest.

I think last season United 'proved' you need neither a good defence nor a good midfield to win the league comfortably

excess depth in attack and a good shot stopper between the uprights is enough

or maybe our defence will settle and combine with our top class attack...uh oh!

Think the modern game, rule changes, the pace, the pitches favour the attack. To win the league firepower is key, you got to have it in other areas of the pitch if it ain't up front, perhaps? Will be interesting to see who eventually comes out on top, maybe Chelsea have the least gap in function between their defence and attack?

If (when) we don't win the title I'll be looking at missed chances in attack rather than defensive frailties.

Especially in the City and Chelsea matches (not to mention the refs)

those two matches were six point swings and we should have beaten City comfortably and got at least a point against Chelsea.

Hello Silky

As discussed, winning 4-0/5-0/6-0 is overrated.

But when you can't score against United, Stoke and other teams of that ilk it becomes a problem.

I stand by that.
