What Fergie saw in Moyes to appoint him as the manager of the biggest club in the world? I will never understand.
This is the answer from some less fickle fan on that forum:

I agree Lambert is a top manager, but so is Moyes.
How fickle you all are. I remember everyone wearing those cardboard masks of Moyes from the Echo in 09 cup final. I agree with everything that’s been said about the football were playing. But that’s due to having poor players, which comes down to finances. Do you all think Moyes has a stash of £100 million he’s choosing to not spend. He can only work with what he’s got. From ’04 – ’09 was the best football I’ve seen us play, passing it to feet on the floor. Moyese has that in his tactical locker, but doesn’t have the players to walk the walk.
People whinging about Arteta ….what would you have done? He wanted to go the season before, Moyes put his foot down and said ‘no’ and that season was the worst I’ve seen arteta play.
Pienaar wanted more money. I completely agree we should have met his demands, but how much influence do you believe the manager has in discussions between a club and an agent??
Many top clubs would welcome David Moyes as their manager. Be careful what you wish for.
The board is the problem ..not the manager
We see your after match interviews and you constantly tell us that we have played well when it’s clear for all to see that we have not only not played well, but we’ve been absolutely woeful week after week.

How many times have we heard this as well?
Everton will most likely be finishing above us, and why? Because they've got a better manager than Moyes who has a philosophy and playing style. Yet there's people out there who still think Moyes should be given a chance and he's got inferior squads finishing above us.
de javu, now can we all just give those silly arguements of all the players turning poor overnight a rest? what we are seeing at United is the true moyes, nothing more nothing less
i could not have said it any better myself, we could sign the best striker in the world and moyes would ruin him in a mtter of weeks

RVP?
Reading some of these comments are hilarious. If I didn't know any better I'd say it's the United board on 606.
Many top clubs would welcome David Moyes as their manager. Be careful what you wish for.

One top club did, not they are in midtable. Meanwhile Everton are flying.
The joys
Admittedly it isnt a great situation right now but I honestly think if Moyes goes then we go down too. Moyes’ achievements will not be fully appreciated until after he has gone ala Carsley.
------
There's another comment saying if Moyes was more attack minded they'd lose every game and go down.
still can't believe United with all the resources at our disposal went for moyes, it's the worst decision we have made as a club in decades, that letter just sums up the feeling amongst most United fans now, to those of you who thinks he can turn things around, sorry but this is his trade mark, survive instead of progressing, it's ok if you don't hit your opponent just make sure you don't get hit etc, this atittude has neva won the ultimate in any competitive sport. Next time you think we have been unlucky just remember fortune favours the brave.
Moyes is going nowhere yet
Try to deal with it the best way you can

Everton are 3 points better off than they were this time last season. We are 23.
We're having a very, VERY poor season, but Everton are hardly having the greatest. So why are they being used to bash Moyes?
In the next 5 years, I would bet Everton are in the bottom half of the table.
Would Everton be 3 points better off if their game against City wasn't postponed? I doubt it.
I sort of agree with you Maestro, I made this point a while back. It's a bit of a fallacy to say that Everton have improved drastically this season when they are doing marginally better than last season. No doubt they're playing better football but I guess it depends how much value you attach to that. On a simple achievement/success basis they're 3 points better off now than they were under Moyes.
What you can't deny, however, is that we are far far worse off with Moyes this season than we were last season.
People overstate how much better they are. But I'd say they are quite a lot better from a footballing perspective, even if the points difference aren't reflective of this, and clearly that and the more positive approach is one of the big reasons in why so many are saying they've improved so much - it's not in terms of points, just improved in plenty of areas on the pitch and in terms of the mentality of the team.
I doubt Everton will be in the bottom half in five years if Martinez stays there.
That's why Martinez is being used as a stick to beat him with - it's exposed the myth that Moyes had to play the way he did to get Everton where they were - if anything it probably held them back, as we are seeing at United.
It actually is not a fallacy. People have told us how great a job Moyes did there and Martinez is a new manager, less experienced than Moyes, had to inherit Moyes' players, has spent little or no money and did not inherit the champions so based on the logic behind the excuses made for Moyes, he should be doing a lot worse.
The fact he isn't clearly highlights the following;
1) Moyes is not a very good manager
2) The excuses made for Moyes are BS

Regardless of whether Martinez "should be doing a lot worse" my point was that it's a fallacy that Everton are MUCH better now without Moyes.
Cut it any way you want, 3 points is not MUCH better, it's marginal. The style of football is the one thing you can properly point to as a big improvement, but - like I said - it depends how much value you attach to that.
An Everton fan I spoke to said Moyes was too negative and was glad when he left.

Funnily enough, the one I work with said he loves Moyes and would welcome him back.

conor, I think you place too much importance on results.
Just watch them play and it's obvious they are a lot better.
As an example I think we were a lot better in the league in 07 and 08 compared to 09 but we actually finished with more points in 09 than we did the other two.

Well I did say quite explicitly that it depends how much value you attach to style of play.
And I don't think I'm placing too much importance on results... after all that is the most important and most easily measurable thing in football.

You should be, it's shocking. Someone rates Moyes.
No I think you are.
United got results but the quality of our football wasn't very good. This isn't simply about style of play, it's about the improvements that you make on the pitch - you could start scoring more goals, and therefore improved your attack, but still have the same amount of points. And if you're judging on results then it's to say that improvements on the pitch haven't been made when they have.
Everton have made a lot of improvements to their team, Moyes grinding away to three points less at this stage shouldn't detract from that.

Moyes at Everton, worryingly similar...
