I agree so I have put Abba in there !!
Northern Ireland have to be George Best.
Argentina - Maradona of course
Rep Of Ireland - Think Keane facked this up. Paul McGrath or Liam Brady for me, Brady probably.
Think Johnny Giles is the greatest ever player to come out of ROI.
Loved Rushie, one of the best forwards to play in this country but I imagine most Welsh people would probably say John Charles is their finest.
Italy is a difficult one, so much choice, I'd probably go with Paolo Rossi, he won them that 82 World Cup. I wouldn't argue with a number of others though from Baresi, Maldini, Baggio and Pirlo etc.
Some odd choices as others have mentioned though.
In my own lifetime:
Germany - Oliver Kahn
Italy - Totti (would have been Nesta if he weren't so injury prone)
France - Zidane
Spain - Raul (Xavi runs him very close)
Netherlands - Bergkamp
Portugal - C. Ronaldo
Brazil - fat Ronaldo
Argentina - Messi
England - Scholes
Don't give a toss about the rest.
For Ireland I would say Brady definitely, followed by Roy Keane.
Not Gascoigne for England though. It has to be a short list I am afraid:
Moore
Greaves
Edwards
Wright (Billy)
Charlton
Finney
Lofthouse
Lineker
Shearer
In my own lifetime:
Germany - Klose
Italy - Del piero
France - Zidane
Spain - Raul
Netherlands - Bergkamp
Portugal - C. Ronaldo
Brazil - Ronaldinho
Argentina - Messi
England - Scholes
ROI - Keane
For Ireland I would say Brady definitely, followed by Roy Keane.
...................................
Brady was a great player undoubtedly and a pretty fair choice but I'd still say Giles was the best player to come from ROI.
He had everything in his locker, he was the hub of Revie's Leeds, a dirty player at times granted but he was great on the ball.
Right up there for me amongst the best midfielders to play in England.
have to agree with Galloping Giles was the best player but as you say dirty at times i would say tough
-Brazil - Rafael
-Argentina - Veron
- Germany - Gabrielle Heinze
- Holland - Van der Saar
- France - Patrice Evra
- Northern Ireland - Jonny Evans
- Wales - Ryan Giggs
- England - Wayne Rooney
- Scotland - Darren Fletcher
- Italy - Geuseppi Rossi
- Republic Ireland - Dennis Irwin
- Sweden - Henrik Larsson
- Norway - Solskjaer
- Denmark - Schmeichal
- Spain - Mata
- Portugal - Ronaldo
- Asia - Park
- America - David Beckham
- Africa - Danny Welbeck
Barry, you try too hard these days.
this list needs to be expanded as you're missing out on some world class players from the past
Germany - Lother Matteus
- Holland - Johann Cruyff
- France - Zizou
- Northern Ireland - Georgie Best Superstar
- Wales - John Charles
- England - Bobby Moore
- Scotland - Billy McNeill
- Italy - Paulo Maldini
- Republic Ireland - Roy Keane
- Sweden - Henrik Larrson
- Norway - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
- Denmark - Michael Laudrup
- Spain - Xabi
- Portugal - Ronaldo

Paddy,
He was a tough player agreed, he was also very cynical. Although you had to be in that Leeds side!
Bremner and Hunter always springs to mind in that team when thinking about the 'hardmen' but Giles was just as bad. Or tough if you like.
