Incidentally, I'm just trying to recall the starting 11 in League 1:

GK: Varied between Henderson, Martin, Stockdale and others. Aside from Henderson, these were brought in by Pearson.
RB: Gilbert. Loan. Brought in by Pearson.
CB: Hobbs. Loan. Brought in by Pearson.
CB: Tunchev or Morrison. Both bought by Pearson.
LB: Mattock, brought through youth system, or Berner, bought by Pearson.
RM: N'Guessan/Adams, both brought in by Pearson, then later Oakley, already here.
CM: King, brought through youth system.
CM: Oakley, already here, and later Davies and Cleverley, both brought in on loan by Pearson.
LM: Dyer, bought by Pearson.
CF: Fryatt, already here.
CF: Howard, already here.

So much of that side was brought in by Pearson. It wasn't the case that the original side that went down was kept together and went straight back up through quality. Pearson's only real advantage in that initial squad was Fryatt, much of the rest he had to do for himself. Pearson surely deserves a lot of credit for putting that team together.

Ok Ok Dung point made but watching that season NP Had resources that where not available to other div 1 teams.
It's heralded as a massive achievement when for me it was an expectation and nothing to compare with trying to get out of the division i am sorry that's my opinion.

Not only that, but it continued to progress to the point where we finished in the Championship play-offs the following season and only missed out on the play-off final on penalties.

Strangely there were many who still didn't rate Pearson when he returned and that was before the evidence of those 2 wins in 17 games. I don't blame anyone for losing a bit of faith during that run, but there were many who were very anti-Pearson before this and the poor run was finally the evidence they needed to illustrate their points. Many people were converted to the anti-Pearson cause, but I doubt really have issue with that so much.

I'm not disrepecting anybody's right to hold an opinion nor anybody's right to challenge it. But I think that many hide behind the "yeah, but... what about..." in respect to that terrible run when actually there has been little evidence either side of it to suggest that Pearson is a bad manager.

I wouldn't criticise anyone for being a bit despondent and critical of NP towards the end of the season. I will, however, continue to challenge the considerable anti-Pearson sentiment before the "bad run" as frankly I never and have never understood it. Not because I wish to condemn those views, but it would be interesting to understand them. That's what debate is all about.

Well my Anti Pearson view was because of him trying to get stringy fired and that gave me an a opinion of the man.

posted on 21/3/14

That certainly reflects as badly on Pearson as anything I've known him do. However, it should be noted that Stringer himself doesn't bring it up and speaks quite highly of him.

well he's not going to risk that again but he has mutual respect but not on each other xmas card list.

Is this right that Foxello's been 'filtered' to stop him posting? If so please let him post - there's room for all opinions on the forum. In fact differing opinions are what gives it life - if everybody agreed about everything it would risk being boring.

Sorry to come back on this so late – surely doing it in one season counts for quite a bit.

Ask any Leeds, Forest or Blades fans.

Did he actually try and get Stringer fired though or was it more of wanting a break from him!

posted on 21/3/14

Well, he made a complaint about him. Whether that translates to "trying to get him fired" is debatable, but the complaint was needless and, from what I can tell, made out of anger and frustration.

I filtered Foxello ages ago because I couldn't be bothered to read his posts anymore, but that was my personal choice. He doesn't offer much more to me than that Tonto bloke who follows Forest. I wouldn't, however, want to restrict him posting if others want to read it. I didn't even realise I could do that.

Does filtering someone stop them from posting in an article you create? If someone can confirm that is the case then I'll un-filter him. I'll just have to be brave or close my eyes when I see his name.

Hi Joby,

Don't think you'll be able to read his article then so on his behalf he wrote the below on the subject of trying to comment on your article.

I am trying to make a comment on Joby's recent thread but it says 'Article Closed to Comments' despite the fact that other members are posting on it right now.

There's more to it than that but that's the relevant part to what you're saying anyway.

Now that Joby has kindly restricted his filtering;

Mersey got it right by sticking by his man and has every right to gloat over those of who lost faith in NP over the first 18 months of his reign. I'm not a fan of the 'I was right, you were wrong, so I'm going to rub your face in it' routine but hey, I can understand why Mersey feels that way I only hope that your powers of prediction can stretch to predicting that we will stay up in the Premier League. I personally believe we will but given my recent track record, I'm not going to shout it out from the rooftops

As for NP - I still believe he did a fairly cack-handed job in his first 18 months here, but this season he has done a bloody good job and deserves all the praise he is getting. Is he good enough for the Premier League? Not sure, but I hope he is given his fair chance at proving his worth

I didn't think I was rubbing anyone's face in it personally. I didn't create this article, I merely celebrated how accurate my (albeit tongue in cheek) article was.

Like Joby and, clearly foxello, I also have some reservations that Pearson will be able to adapt tactics as much as he might need to in the Prem. But other than that, it have a lot of faith in his multitude of other skills such as team building, man management, scouting and recruitment and sports science.

I think (and hope) he can be what David Moyes was to Everton for us.
