They would be top of the league points clear with him, possibly if they had offered an extra 5-10m

Check out this video made by our Norweigan fan branch, spine tingling stuff. What a player

But if Arsenal signed him he would. All the players we want fit get injured. And the donkey we have upfront seems to be the only player in our squad who never does

Arsenal called our bluff and boy, did they get burned.

Arsenal didn't commit an error in bidding the amount they bid. Their error was inexplicably not pressing their claim.

A buy out clause is a buy out clause. Liverpool stood their ground and Arsenal decided not to fight a battle that legally they were certain to win.

Why have a buy out clause if it has no affect on the player's contractual situation? Surely, if you have it in writing that a player can leave for a set amount, and that amount is offered, then he should be free to move.

I have no idea how Liverpool managed to get away so freelt with overriding a contract they signed, and had the nerve to insult Arsenal for meeting those legal rewuirements.

But I hope it's a watershed. Buy out clauses aren't worth the paper they are written on.

we did with Suarez what United did with Heinze years back.

and Suarez' agent wrote/provided a poor contract. He's an idiot.

Poor contract? No. Did your owner not recently come out and say Arsenal met your buy out clause and you just said "no." Pretty sure he did. So basically renderinf a legal term of a contract meaningless.

You're completely right with the Heinze sutuation btw. It was in writing that he could move to anybody for a set price, Liverpool met the price and then United realised that they'd messed up. It wound up going through court and somehow we got away with it apparently being implied that Liverpool were not included in the agreement. Must have been a great lawyer!!!

The pfa / league bureaucrats looked at Suarez' contract and said it was rubbish and vague and not really binding

I think Henry was on the wind up.

I don't think they would have been certain to win - the PFA had their lawyers poring over the contract and they said there was no enforceable clause
