Bandit to be honest and I just said this in an earlier thread I think he could have stopped all 3, the first was not that far away from him and he went with the wrong hand, the 2nd was played right in to he's 6 yard box, that is he's area, he should have come out to meet the ball or at least have been ready to punch it out and the 3rd goal is yet another instance of him being beaten at he's near post, it has happened on too many occassions now
For the first goal, a bloke of six foot five shouldn't be beaten by a shot going over his head - sorry!
It would've taken a world class save to stop the first one if you just look at how fast he's .hit it.
That does of course open debate as to whether Cech should be the one making world class saves every time.
At the end of the day, he could've done better but to condemn the goalkeeper for all 3 goals is to miss the bigger picture - we didn't have any cutting edge going forward.
I don't particulary hold him accountable for the 2nd two but for the first, if he just stands up and uses his height he puts it over the bar - looked simple to me!
LAMPARDS introduction killed our game.
There is no getting away from it, it was a needless sub and one that Jose will regret.
I'm sorry but at that point even with the stupidity of luiz we were in a good position and he chose to put lampard on who just like palace looked a mile and a half off the pace.
We were our own worts enemy's tonight could have been comfortable had it not been for individual mistakes from 1 player and our manager.
I'm not talking about the own goal I'm talking about luiz making an entirely predictable unecessary foul
The first goal was completely Cechs fault, as brummie said, a 6ft6 keeper should not be letting a ball like that go right over his head, that was crap keeping
Why is cech getting so much abuse
Is this people desperately trying to justify courtois coming into replace the greatest goalkeeper in our history ?
No chance lavezzi goal was a stunner and let's not take away the free kick which came if luiz. It's a stunning ball in and those things happen.
Not giving him abuse Toby - it's not disrespectful to say he made a mistake.
No matter how well Lavazzi took his chance, if the keeper stands tall (especially a 6', 5" one) he is tall enough to make contact with a ball that's going over his head and low enough to go under the bar!
Cech should have done better even for the second goal and he was being indecisive from set-pieces which ultimately led to second goal with Luiz the comedy king of defending and Cech making a basic error for the third goal!
BrummieBlue first goal was unstoppable and second mistake was not a big mistake but a mistake but the third was a schoolboy error.Cech also made the same mistake against West Brom with both Luiz and him at fault for that late goal in 88th minute!
How is it unstoppable if it goes right over his head?
Brummie it could be stopped but that would have been a worldclass save. The shot was hit with pace and from close range!
Do we have at least one player who can shoot and score a screamer from distance these days? We used to have Lampard, Ballack... ffs I even remember Bosingwa scoring one. Alex was another but the idiot AVB let him go for peanuts while he was at his prime. It was painful watching him play against us.
And of course we had Didier. How the fock are we supposed to open up teams who are defending deep with all men behind ball if we don't have a single attacking player who can do this?
Also do we have even one attacking player who can score a desisive header if we are forced to hoof the ball at the final minutes of a game? Well, I guess Lukaku would have been able to provide the latter at least.
There is know way cech is to blame for the first goal, he had a poor game, but he didn't have enough time to react. You seem to be forgetting reaction time
I'm not sure if he could really have saved the first goal, but it also seemed strange to me that he went with the wrong hand. He should definitely have done better with the 3rd goal though.
