Not a Leicester fan, but would just like to say
congratulations on getting promoted.
I've seen you play a few times this season on the T.V. and you have always performed well.
A well deserved promotion.
And best of luck for you next season.
welcome to the premier league.
I am pleased to see you havn't meddled too much, for I believe we have a good number of players capable of
taking on the premier league.
With a slower pace, our style of football will suit and produce a mid table position.
With the inclusion of a good striker of course, but are there any to be found.
Trust in Nigel.
Naughton is a good shout. Not sure whether he played under Pearson but sure that wouldn't stop us trying as he's still quite young.
Caulker would be brilliant. Perhaps it would be wise to look at talented players of teams coming down. Mark Davies was certainly a better player than Cleverley I wonder if we can get him.
I think we need 3 big players. The squad looks ok, I think a lot of the players can step up and are young enough too but we will need a couple of real stars perhaps a defender, midfielder and striker of real talent. Let's not forget we will probably lose the experience of Phillips, GTF and possibly Hammond this summer- that is a quality that will need replacing.
I think you've got the requirements more or less spot-on.
We'll certainly need a backup keeper as we won't be able to dip into the loan market in the prem if outside a transfer window.
We will need some premier league experience, like we added championship experience this season. Wonder whether we'd be able to get Gareth MacCauly back?
Claverley may be a step too far but would be a real statement of intent if we were even interested. We will need someone in midfield, what about Sidwell?
Up front is where the real issue lies though-Vardy will cause teams problems but I think he'll have to be wide in 4-3-3 as I don't think he'll get the 12-15 we'll need from the main front man. Can see him getting 8-10 though. Nugent has done well this season but I don't think he's going to be good enough to be the main striker (good sub though). Wood is young and has potential but I'm not convinced he'll be the main man either so this is where the recruitment team and most of the budget will need to be focused-any suggestions?
dont you dare let konchesky step foot in the epl again
I think we'll need an experienced midfielder to push James and DD. If Fulham go down I think Sidwell would be worth a bid.
Out wide there are rumours of Zaha being sold for 5m, whilst Tom Ince is only on loan to Crystal Palace and Redmond may want to stay in PL if Norwich tumble. All have pace to burn.
Up front I think the most important signing is Philips as a coach. I think all of the forwards movement has improved since his arrival. I'd give Nuge and Vardy a chance as thee first front two - I don't think Nuge has ever played in his preffered position in the PL. Then bring a youngster in on load like Brayford or Powell. If an old head is needed if fancy a cheeky bid for Eduardo.
Well, the defence is one of the key areas for me. Hull have paid attention to that area this season and in the main have been difficult to score past at home. Richie Delaet and Konchesky are not PL standard for me. I could be proved wrong but Antonio and Paterson made mincemeat out of Delaet this season and I think defensively he will get crucified at PL level. Konch has a good left foot but gives the ball away cheaply. Schlupp is still learning
So for me the full backs are priority positions, there are teams who play with pace and width in the prem and the current squad would struggle
I don't think we need to go crazy and sign 10 players, but although we have been great this season, let's not think the current squad would be ok at the top level, it's a massive step up. Three or four key additions with prem experience would be great, naughton is a very good shout as an example
Would like to see an experienced striker and someone to challenge the midfield as well
Stranger things have happened in the transfer market.
I'm still wondering how the hell a world class midfielder like Gary Medel is at Cardiff.
Very good article funmachine, and some interesting suggestions for new signings. Caulker stands out as an excellent target, and I'd welcome Naughton back in a heartbeat.
However, the biggest concern for me is strike force. Our most experienced striker - Nugent - hasn't managed to keep his place in the Premiership despite being there before. For Vardy it would be another massive step up and he'd need to be more prolific. Chris Wood shows glimpses of Premier League ability, such as that rasper against Burnley, but also has many games where he's ineffective. Are any of them going to consistently score goals in the Premiership? That's the question that most needs addressing over the summer for me, and of course it's the one question with no easy answers.
One player who I think could be the type of striker we need is Patrick Bamford. He looks a different class of striker in the championship & I think mourinho would like him to have a season on loan in the premier league to see how he gets on.
Bamford, that's who I meant when I said Brayford and Powell
Hi new poster here thought I'd add my thoughts. I would like the majority of the team to get a chance next season as they all deserve a crack. But I think we definitely need a right back, left back and a striker. The midfield has been brilliant and our pesky French wingers can only get better with experience. I think Vardy will scare defenders playing off the last man with his pace. We just need someone who knows where the back of the net is...maybe Jordan Rhodes ?
Welcome Nellie Some good points there, Rhodes in particular.
Looks like Nigel has set his stall out already though, article in the telegraph today where he says he feels the squad is more than capable of holding its own in the prem. He mentions a couple of additions but anyone expecting any names likes Zaha etc will likely be disappointed
Welcome Nellie,
I don't think Jordan Rhodes is the type of striker is what we want. Now, I know he's got a great goalscoring record, but i just can't stand a striker who choose to go down everytime a little bit of wind touches his ankles.
I think if he actually chose to hold the ball up and bring players into the game then maybe I'd change my mind.
But for me, he'll cost too much money and I think his style of play doesn't suit us.
I would welcome Jordan Rhodes as I think the whole diving thing can be coached out of someone. However, I agree that he'll cost too much money: People tend to lose perspective over players who are overpriced - Too often the club that bought him clings on to the belief that they're still worth that and they don't want them going down as a hit in the balance books. I can't see Blackburn selling easily.
To be honest as we've seen previously, I don't think Pearson will even contemplate anyone who won't bleed blue for the cause. But at championship level, Rhodes has more than proven his worth, so to take the step up wouldn't be that big a deal Imo. And if he feels the need to go down after ankle taps.....to play against the big boys you have to play their big boy games!
It's not even the ethics of diving that bothers me, it's the fact he risks losing possession when he does it and would undermine our game plan.
As mentioned before, maybe Patrick Bamford, although I can't see Chelsea selling so maybe a season loan. But as a Vardy fan I see them being too inexperienced together. In any case it's going to be an exciting pre season this year and I can't wait
What about Darren Bent if Fulham get relegated? I can't see a player like him wanting to play Championship football, and I think him and Vardy would be a decent pairing up front. I dont think we need a massive overhaul like Cardiff done, but if you had Caulker in, who would you drop? Who would be your starting back four if he was the only defensive signing. Also another great signing for me would be getting Kasper on a new contract
I think there's a reason Darren Bent doesn't get into the Fulham team & why he's been dislodged by the likes of Cauley Woodrow.
He doesn't work hard enough.
Our style of play demands putting pressure on the front foot & defending from the front. Bent just doesn't work hard enough.
Plus, his wages would be far too much.
Darren Bent is another Beckford for me. Only Fulham player who seemed to be trying and think they wouldn't have half of the points without him, his 6 or so goals have really dragged them through games. Great premiership experience to add to James and DD.
^^^^^Is Sidwell ^^^^. One day on hols and my brain turned to mush...
So now that we have all absolved our sins in the form of writing letters to the manager, it's time to go shopping :D
Goalkeeper - Definitely need an understudy to Kasper (assuming he stays). Would go for either an experienced understudy like a Steve Harper or an inexperienced goalie in his mid 20's with bags of potential. The two names that immediately sprung to mind were Wes Foderingham at Swindon or Declan Rudd, on loan at Preston from Norwich.
Right back - De Laet has made massive improvements this season, but if Moore is being groomed into a centre half, then RDL needs some competition. Jack Hunt or Kieron Trippier (if Burnley blow it) would be good choices, or Andre Wisdom on loan.
Centre half - Need a pacy centre half to complement what we already have. Alex Pearce at Reading could be worth a shout.
Left back - Despite having two solid Championship LBs, I'm unsure whether Schlupp (lack of exp) or Konch (lack of pace) are either ready or up to the challenge. Aaron Cresswell at Ipswich is a player I like.
Wing - Knockaert and Mahrez are continuing to improve and I think both are ready for their chance. But I think another one to go alongside those and Lloyd is a must. Anthony Pilkington has been left on the sidelines at Norwich, and Jordon Mutch has had a good season at Cardiff and can play there.
Midfield - DD and James have the potential to be a brilliant central midfield, and we have very strong back up in King and experience in Hammond. But we lack a bit of attacking intent. Ravel Morrison would be a great signing. If we want another DM, Steven N'Zonzi wants out at Stoke.
Strikers - The most vital aspect. Nugent, Wood and Vardy all deserve a crack, but we have to have a 10-15 goal striker to stand a chance of staying up. Bent is a good shout but lacks the work ethic NP demands. McCormack at Leeds could make the step up, but really need someone who has a proven track record at PL level. First thoughts - Andreas Weimann?
I have to join the chorus of people saying they wouldn't want Darren Bent here. He hasn't done nearly enough for several seasons now and I wouldn't trust him to perform regularly and with the necessary attitude. Another that used to be good.
Left back is an interesting one, because Schlupp's putting in a good audition right now to laying claim to a spot. Playing there in the Premiership is a different matter though, and it'd be a massive vote of confidence for him if Pearson decides that he is the answer. At least with Konchesky in the squad as well we could have someone experienced to step in if and when he finds himself struggling for form.
As for goalkeeper, interesting call from Foxello on Steve Harper. If he's willing to be a number 2 then he could be an excellent choice as backup for Schmeichel.
