Fresh Young Manager

I don't think the issue is youth - the issue is introspection. Wenger can't see the wood for the trees, because he's too hung up on making sure that he conforms to the image of himself that he's created. He can't objectively analyse where he's making mistakes. We don't need to get hung up on how old our manager is, as long as he can remain detached enough to see the big picture.

We need fresh ideas and a modern approach.

The thing is these days no matter what manager you get the likelihood is that in three seasons time he won't be there for whatever reason. There seems to be no room for error these days so clubs just keep rolling the dice and picking up someone else. Certain managers do well at certain clubs compare BR at Liverpool to his time at Reading.

There's definitely a VERY strong argument for that.

But there's also a very real danger in going gung-ho into a situation in picking a new guy to take the reigns at a 'big club'. Moyes/Utd is a perfect example of what can go wrong.

Where Arsenal are concerned, that isn't an issue among the board. If a manager keeps Arsenal in the top four, then they have a job for life - anything beyond that is a bonus.

The problem is the fans that swear allegiance to Wenger. Because the second his successor drops a point, the knives will be out... "This never would have happened under Arsene. See? Arsene knew."

An inevitable vicious-circle!

It wasn't too long ago that some of us were calling for someone within the club to be moved up to replace Wenger. That idea seems to have faltered away a bit this season.

I for one do not advocate going for someone who will take 2-3 years of getting used to the role. We got a squad that's ready made for a title push (bar a few signings) so we need a manager to reflect that.

Second point is that i'm surprised that no-one has considered Steve Bould for the role. We've seen what he can do with our defence. He should definitely be considered at the very least.

I think he would be to be honest and there are one or two influential online Fanzines who have asked a similar question (why not Bould?).

Personally I'd be inclined to wait a season and go balls out to persuade Klopp and give him the reigns to begin a whole new project, era and (hopefully) dynasty. However I appreciates there's so many if's and's and but's, just my take on the future AFC manager situation.

I would have said Steve Bould before he became assistant manager. But there's something about that role that makes it complicated to move up to the top job within the same club.

As an assistant, you're pretty much a conduit between the players and the manager. You're a friend to the former, and an advisor to the latter. So to move up to manager means you need to try and separate yourself from your relationship with the players, which isn't easy.

Fair play, as someone who has never experienced a managerial change at Arsenal. I still haven't decided who I want as the next Arsenal manager, I'm not even sure if I want Wenger out!

Whatever happens though, it would be sad to lose Steve Bould as Assistant if the next manager decides to ditch him.

People love to label everything, while managers change with age and experience you’re going to get old managers with new ideas and vice versa.
