Why can't we do both?

Yeah, I think I want to have a continental approach purely because I think it uses the best players. Also, in my mind that essentially makes us Barcelona!

I do have concerns that the team would be light in midfield if we played with no DM. Maybe swap Dembele/Sandro for Holtby/Carroll in tough matches:
============Sandro=============
=======Siggy======Dembele=======
===Lamela =============Eriksen===
============Soldado=============
Dembele played under Van Gaal in the Dutch league so he must know how to play quick football somewhere in his mind!

Pros: When it works it looks amazing, gives good protection to the back 4 with a DM often utilised, keeps opposition back 4 honest.
Cons: heavily reliant on clever/in-form wingers, not easily adaptable (no plan B), leaves us open to counter attack
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just how in the hell can it give good protection to our back 4 but leave us open to the counter?
Thats ridiculous
Dembele and Sandro formed a very good midfield partnership
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
When on earth have they formed a good partnership? If they ever have it was a long long time ago

Push and go is dead for me - it's too easily figured out and results will go against you if you can't outscore the opposition. The continental style of possession play is being adopted by the top teams in the world because even if you know what's coming you can't get hold of the ball for long enough to control the game, tiring players and restricting chances to a minimum.
Looking at the squad we've got its been put together to keep hold of the ball, with lots of forwards/inside forwards like Lamela, Chadli, Siggy & Eriksen whose game is about link up play and creating or scoring rather than trying to hit the byline and cross it in.
Tim has made a hash of it, and by going 442 with only one winger and no holding midfielder we've been lopsided and there have been gaps everywhere. The worst of both worlds. If I were to take over tomorrow is go back to AVB's team - a 4231 or 433 with Eriksen as a number 10 or most advanced midfielder. Work everything through him, dominate possession and go back to being solid at the back.

If LVG comes in then itll be 4-3-3. If so Id like to see;
==============Lloris
Walker===Capoue===Vertonghen==(Daley Blind?)
=====Paulinho==Sandro==Eriksen
Lamela=====Adebayor==(Konoplyanka?)
