I ain't mad at dude for moving to United. I mean dude be injured for mad years and ting and then outta the blue he done been offered the chance to play for the biggest team in the country so we gotta be real about it nah mean?
Dude still a fúckin weak ass fassyhole though who can fúck off to the shítbags. He was never one of us and never will be. Fúckin spoilt chump.

He was my idol growing up, had a signed poster of him in my room, always tried to copy him when I was playing footy at school.
He left and it was a bitter pill to swallow, buoyed somewhat by the Champions League win that year, and the transfer to Man U really got on my grill, but it's not like the lad was a scouser, plus I felt a bit sorry for him as he could have been so much better had he not been plagued by injuries.
Shït pundit like, but there will always be a little part of me that loves him. Maybe thats just my nostalgia.

Nah,the little grinds my gears.
Wow the comment above pretty much sums up my feelings for Owen too. The guy was my complete and utter hero growing up and a part of the reason I fell in love with Liverpool. His pace and skill made him one of the best I ever saw. I shed a tear at his departure too although I don't often admit that but I was young! The guy won a Ballon D'or for god sake. I know competition wasn't the best that year but not many LFC players can claim to have done that.
Not till I finally grew up a bit did I realise he has quite an annoying voice and one I would never pay to listen to. Usually when he's on BT I usually mute it as his opinions may hold some validity in the game but my god that voice is annoying.
Also I am not really a bitter person so hold no grudge towards his move to United. In the end injury ruined his career and in hindsight he failed to become a legend at any club he was at. Had he stayed I reckon he would have become our greatest striker of all time I really do.
I think him leaving to win the Champions League and us subsequently winning it, was enough for me to get over him leaving. Moving to United? I'm sure most would have done the same, had Liverpool been in for him, I'm sure he'd have jumped at the chance, over United.
I'm indifferent to him, he was a great player for us but he left way too early for me to consider him one of the greats and love him like various other players throughout the years.
By above I meant the comment by Jose Enrique's dietician*
I don't mind him personally. He was great for us for a period of time and the FA Cup win against Arsenal will live long in the memory.
To be honest, his career took such a nose dive after he left us that my overwhelming feeling about Owen the player is sympathy. Madrid signed him as a name rather than a player, then Newcastle (?!) and then periods of inactivity on the Utd and Stoke bench. All whilst constantly struggling with injuries.
It wasn't exactly the stella career predicted after the 17 year old burst onto the scene. Plus he's never appeared a bad bloke to me, just dull as hell!
He's a terrible commentator / pundit though.
Never really had a problem with Michael. Scored lots of goals.
He does make my ears bleed though and his voice could kill a witch.
You guys were really unlucky with the career progressions of Owen and Fowler
================================================
Owen didn't start getting injuries until after he left us, so we weren't particularly unlucky with that.
I think he left us at a time when we least needed him to, but his move to Real Madrid proved to be a bigger mistake for him, as he sat on the bench winning nothing while we won the CL, and he spent the rest of his career trying to recover from that.
Didn't really mind him going to United. Going there directly is one thing, but by the time he went there he was trying to resurrect his career, and the only other Premiership offer he got was from Stoke.
Bygones, for me. He wanted to come back to LFC after his year on the bench in Madrid, but didn't have the balls to stand up to Madrid's asking price, which made things worse, because he then spent time at Newcastle chasing lost causes, and getting injured.
Waved goodbye to us as well as his career when he left LFC.
The brochure was excruiatingly embarrassing.
Gave up hero status and became a parody of himself.
Bunch of big girls blouses on this thread, I watched the first game off the season Liverpool v Stoke on BT sports and Owen tipped Liverpool to go all the way.
You guys need to get over yourselves Owen wanted to win trophies hence Madrid/United
"Owen tipped Liverpool to go all the way."
Someone always does that though. After 24 years, eventually someone was going to be right. Hansen tipped them in 2010....

What was it he won again??
I remember it quite clearly. I think it was a Wednesday night, Selhurst Park, us playing against Wimbledon ( Newcastle were playing West Ham at Upton Park the same night). Roy Evans(?) was our manager. Half way through the second half LFC made a substitution. I asked the Scouser sitting next to me who he was. "Michael Owen, they rate him highly." And I could soon see why. One of our best strikers to grace Anfield.
And then? He walked out on us. Forgiven but never forgotten. I couldn't help but notice the boos when he came on. Not surprised.

That went well. Won fk all on the bench at Madrid while we won the CL, then got a couple of consolation medals at United for being a bit-part player at a club he chose over Stoke City.
Won a shed-load at Newcastle, though
He won more at LFC than anywhere else!

Bit of generalising there.
Michael Owen was a lethal goal machine. Pace & finishing. Really gutted when he went
Lived off his goal against Argentina for his entire career.
Had potential, but average at best.
40 international goals flatters him.
He won nothing at Madrid or Man U which I'm happy about!!
But you can tell when he commentates like Redknapp Souness and Carra he is Red to the core, and his goal repeats on LFC channel are still amazing lol.

If anything he should have got more, injuries prevented him from topping 50.
If anything flatters him the it's the European Footballer of the Year title, he was good but not in that company IMO.
