I have heard that he got 10 assists for last season in ALL comps.
Modric got about 3 though. Does not really matter - both can play a bit.
2008-2009 season - Xavi was La Liga's player with the highest number of assists
2009-2010 season - Xavi was La Liga's player with the highest number of assists
Well I don't think he directly gets assists, but undoubtedly he and his fellow midfielders are responsible for opening gaps in defences with their passing, through which through balls can be slid, and goals scored
hes not there to directly assist. Hes there to control the game, tempo and create from the middle not directly assisting the goals as such but playing the passes prior to the assist.
Without him they would be lost against top opponents.
I'm sure Xavi weighs in with a few assist although he probably gets much less than pedro, messi etc. They play way to many passes though

I stand corrected, he does directly get assists clearly!
The thing with assists is that it is always the last player to touch the ball before the goal. The majority of the time players like Xavi do all the hard work then make a pass and then that player makes the final pass to claim the assist. That final pass could only be 5 yards or something or a little flick.
So no he probably does not make a lot of the ‘final passes’ but does do a lot of the hard work beforehand.
Man, he really got to you Metro, bless.
He is there to help create chances and set the tempo of their play.
He's a superb player . He's invariably involved in barca moves which create chances and goals are scored. Who cares if he isn't the player to pass the ball last before the goal scorer.
Anybody watch the NextGen thing last night?
Sporting sure took you boys to the cleaners.I'd heard such great things about your youth set up.Guess it wasn't true.
Very small crowd too for only a fiver to get in.
Busquets assist for Messi's goal in the CL semi-final was incredible

translation: darn it, Metro's actually right here but what can I say so it doesn't look like i'm siding with him
According to ESPN he has made 83 assists for club AND country since 01/02 season.
So that is 83 assists in 579 appearances or on average an assist every 7 games. Compare that to Fabregas who with Arsenal got on average an assist every 3 games then no, Xavi doesn't really make that many assists.
Metro got ragged silly today so much so, that he decided to call for backup.
in his little innocent eyes.. 7 assists is prolific
CPofL,
I'm delighted that so many rival team supporters chose to watch a LFC under 19's game. It really illustrates just how obsessed some of you are
Lisbon are one of the favourites for the competition and certainly showed it. The score flattered them as we really should have scored in the second half, but they were far more clinical than we were.
Sterling again showed how much potential he has. He will certainly be a player to grace the first team in the near future.

we don't need to sidetrack. You stated that Xavi rarely gets assists... I disagreed and the argument went from there.
But to be top assist maker for 2 years on the run in the supposed best league in the world is detrimental to your side of the coin.
so unlucky

So you've asked people to give their opinions, none of which agreed with yours and have now gone back to the garbage you were spouting in the first place. Priceless
