Any room for Mata and Kagawa?

posted on 22/4/14

I'm unsure about this. He's got a te credentials, but from now till mid July he'll be completely focused on the World Cup. What happens with transfers etc until then? It's not like we have a DoF to sort things out.

Spurs fans must be livid about all these articles on the United board.

"Football is a team sport, and the members of the team are therefore dependent on each other. If certain players do not carry out their tasks properly on the pitch, then their colleagues will suffer."

Wayne Rooney needs to do what he is told.

Thanks for the links. I read both with interest.

We can all speculate about the merits of different candidates for the job and to be honest I have no idea whether Van Gaal would be a good appointment. However, I've always had a sneaking admiration for football's idealogues and visionaries. It would be quite a change for United and therefore an exciting ride to go on if the new manager were a figure of this type, who has strong opinions about the 'right way' to play the game. Ferguson of course had values and a broad notion inherited from Busby that we should play attacking, entertaining football. But he had strong pragmatic tendencies. He wasn't a tactical visionary or in any way dogmatic. Van Gaal would be - interesting.

RR, yeah I know what you mean. I've felt that was the route we should go down after Fergie - it's why I really wanted Pellegrini.

Yeah, I agree that Van Gaal would be interesting. I think the facts that he has a style excites me but whether he could make do with the personal we have is another question.

@Clock: Apparently he as the ability to improve and make use of technical players so I hope Mata and Kagawa thrive under him.

Bielsa doesn't speak English, I guess. That would be the ultimate in ideological football.

Guillem Balague (yes, i know) was on Sky Sports today saying that Van Gaal had a big part to play in what happened at Barca and is now happening at Bayern, style of football, youth development that kind of thing, which is good news if true.

Article I posted earlier showed he gave debuts to Valdes Puyol Xavi and Iniesta

I'm not entirely sold on LvG on a personal level and as a man-manager however his philosophy, his ideas, his incredible tactical knowledge and what would be an entirely new approach, I'm quite excited about him potentially taking over.

As per a trusted Dutch journalist Van Der Kraan on BEIN Sports now, Van Gaal will likely become United manager pending final negotiations.

TRS, that's my thinking.

I just want to see some shexy football back at Old Trafford, to be honest.

posted on 22/4/14

I think LVG would be a great appointment for 2-3 years my only issue is the World Cup and how that would affect transfers

Love that word.

I don't use it as often as I really should.

Shome shexy football next season. Oh yes!

Re. transfers, does anyone think Sir Alex and/or David Gill could be involved?

I wouldn't trust Ed Woodward to organise a pi$$ up in a brewery at the moment.

posted on 22/4/14

It's a fantastic word.

Gill isn't employed by United any more is he? Doubt Fergie will be either.

I'm still undecided on Woodward. He made a right balls up of last summer, but how much of it was down to dithering Dave as well?

And he seemed to go about his business well with the Mata transfer. There's not really enough information to know whether or not he'll be good or bad in the coming window.

Gill couldn't be involved. He sits on a number of football group boards and it would be a conflict of interest.

posted on 22/4/14

What made me think of that was Sir Alex and Gill speaking to Abramovich at Stamford Bridge the Sunday before we signed Mata. It may have not been anything to do with Mata of course but it seemed a bit strange at the time.

I'm just thinking if LvG does get appointed and he's on International duty, will all transfer deals be left entirely up to Woodward? Maybe LvG will want somebody he trusts to assist.

You heard of phones, TRS?

TRS,

The manager only needs to get involved with a transfer if there is a competition for a players signature or they need convincing to move. The rest is left up to the accountants.

Point taken.
