Do ya reckon Mel will be there next season JH?

Are you keeping a close eye on Thorne?

May we keep him?

Pretty please!

Keep your dirty hands of the big JC, he is staying at Arsenal

No suprise with these links given that Mel was in charge of both of them at Real Betis. Ruben Castro said not too long ago that Mel is the best coach that he has ever worked with.

A big yes to them both.

The fans are desperate for Mel to stay Igor.

Shame our chairman hasn't come out and backed him yet. Meeting are taking place in the next few weeks so all will become abit more clear.

And no, you can't have George 👍

But you can have a fruit...🍎

He didn't really, he just scored a stunning goal.

Castro is without doubt a very talented and proven goalscorer. But his injury record over the last 2 years has been horrendous. He's mustered less appearances than Anichebe. At 32 i'd be amazed if this trend didn't continue or, god forbid, worsen.

I've not seen enough of Campbell to comment other than the performance against Utd.

If we signed these 2 we could end up with a crock who hardly ever plays and an inconsistent youngsters or we could end up with 2 prolific strikers with pace and guile the likes of which could see us finish a lot further up the table.

Should we be gambling though. Surely there's safer bets out there?!

Here are Ruben Castro's stats for his 4 seasons at Real Betis. These include cups as well as league.

12 goals in 31 appearances this season.

21 goals in 40 appearances last season.

16 goals in 35 appearances in 11/12 season

32 goals in 49 appearances in 10/11 season (Segunda division)

It's only this season where he has had injury trouble and that was at the start of the season under Mel where he missed 12 out of the first 13 matches. He hasn't missed a league game since.

His league stats are:

13/14 - 9 goals in 22 matches
12/13 - 18 goals in 34 matches
11/12 - 16 goals in 34 matches.
10/11 - 27 goals in 42 matches.

Ruben Castro is the proven goal scorer that we lack and need.

Fair enough Professor Josh. Sign him up!

32 though. I'd rather sign Thievy for around 1mill and then go all out and spend big on a main striker at the right age. Like Swansea and Bony.

More than happy to go into next season with...

Anichebe
Berahino
Thievy
New main striker

Ruben Castro has only missed 6 league matches due to a confirmed injury for Betis in the 3 seasons before this season. That is very good.

I said we should look at getting him in January as he is exactly what we need. This season we have lacked that proven goalscorer who we know will score us 15-20 goals. Ruben Castro will be that man if we sign him.

He may be 32 but he still has the quality that we need.

9 goals in 22 league matches after missing 12 out of the first 13 matches whilst playing for a team that has been bottom for the entirety of his return is a very good return.

The added bonus for us will be Pepe Mel. Castro said that Mel is the best coach that he has ever worked with. Lets hope Mel can entice him and maybe even right back Javi Chica to this club.

I suppose age isn't a major concern. Wasn't Odem 32 when we signed him?

posted on 30/4/14

Odemwingie signed for us a month after his 29th birthday.

I think Samuel Eto'o is a good comparison. He is older than Castro but this season has done well for Chelsea and shown that he still has it.

Oh right. I'm unsure, personally.

Super Kev has just retired at 40

Age isn't always a barrier. Some can go on for longer and some can't. What his age does mean though is that we can afford him. if he was 4 years younger he may have been too expensive for us.

As long as he hasn't lost his pace, sign him up I say.

Castro
Campbell
Berahino
Anichebe

Throw in 2 new fullbacks and a new centre back plus a permanent deal for Amalfitano and new contracts for Jones, Dorrans and Brunt and i'll be happy!

posted on 30/4/14

Due to Real Betis' relegation and administration, I am hoping that we can get him for a cut price because Betis need the money.

I would look at having Anichebe, Ruben Castro and Berahino as our 3 strikers with Sessegnon to play in behind one of them. We can also play a 442 with Castro partnering Anichebe or Berahino.

Joel Campbell to play on our right side to give us raw pace. Brunt at left midfield to provide balance with Buttner on loan from Man Utd or Taylor from Cardiff at left back.

posted on 30/4/14

I'd be happy with any alternative left back right now to be honest!

We need cover for Billy Jones too because Reid has shot his bolt. Way too slow!

New 2 year deal signed....

With Adidas. Do you guys like the gear Adidas gives us. They make decent shirts but the whole mix and match with all other teams, just swapping colours, badges & sponsor is about naff.

I agree, JH. I much preferred the previous season's shirts.
