Anfield on Sunday should be a celebration rather than a wake. Now isn’t the time for recriminations, now isn’t the time for the autopsy on what went wrong

Seriously though, you have had a great season and far exceeded everyone (apart from GB's) expectations

I'm pretty sure it will be.....

Just thought that was a particulary well written paragraph. Last night has us all deflated but it's still not over, we've a faint hope (who thought we'd be relying on villa, Sam Allardyce, Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing!)

Just remember how well we've played and try not to be too depressed today

The uniqueness of 2013/14 will stand on its own without compare. Don’t waste your last few days in its company with your mentality flag flying at half-mast. Yes, we now stand at a juncture where the less likely scenario is that we will win the title, but the laws of mathematics dictate that at this juncture we ‘can’ still win the title. Enjoy that this very fact still wafts in the breeze today.

That must be the most intelligent, highbrow paragraph I've ever read on JA606. Kudos

Clearly, although your prediction of us to win 4.232-0.123 in the prediction thread this week was certainly interesting

The title of this thread got me thinking - has there ever been a Premier League team whose goals for + goals against have come to a higher tally than ours? Our 37 games so far have included 148 goals - an average of exactly 4 per game .

I'd love to take the credit but it's from TAW (The Anfiled Wrap) great site by the way well worth a read and it's weekly podcast is brilliant.

We spun the wheel to get more goals and it didn't come off. There's no shame in that since the odds were in Man City's favour.

When did winning nothing become a triumphant season for Liverpool, sad times

posted on 6/5/14

Could still win it,but whatever the outcome, rather than criticising defensive frailty/naivity you should really just be proud of them.
Compare and contrast with the recent dour nonsense of Hodgson or the unbalanced displays of the Dalglish era,Rodgers has liverpool playing with the same vibe that made them such a force throughout europe in the 70s and 80s and has made them a pleasure to watch in the modern over elaborate and defensive game.
Its laughable that supporters of the also rans choose to rejoice in liverpool just coming up short when their own teams have given them nothing whatsoever to be proud about.
It will be good to see the big european nights return next year to anfield, always enjoyed watching enviously the passion these nights generated which never seemed to be replicated at other grounds

Blimey, PPL, that's a very magnanimous post.
There hasn't been much of that around today...

I don't think it occurs to them how bitter it makes them look. I've read several such articles today, and it makes me smile.

I'm sure things will change but if we had won yesterday, I would be going believing there is a real chance of seeing us lift the trophy. That has gone now and that hurts like hell at the moment.

no, it hasn't. it's still possible for city to lose one, or both remaining games. it's an admittedly small chance, but it's still a chance. and if they do drop points against villa, we'll be starting our final game knowing it can come down to goal difference.

at the risk of sounding like got better, considering how bad Newcastle have been, (and their players may even feel they need to put in a particularly abject performance to finally get rid of pardew) is it really inconceivable to get a double-figure score against them?

posted on 6/5/14

double figures? Not a hope and if we tried to wed conceed a load of goals

It's inconceivable to most of us, yes....unfortunately.

We just need to win against Newcastle and ensure we are ending the season no worse than 2nd and with 100 goals.

I am still hoping we can hit 5 and beat Chelsea's 103 goal record from 09/10? I think.

That alone would be an amazing achievement irrespective of not winning the league.

It would be nice to score first so that news filters through to the Etihad and just puts a bit of doubt in the crowd than can affect the players.

It's massively unlikely it will go our way, but to have a chance on the final day in itself is pretty special for this team at this juncture.

posted on 6/5/14

jeezus, what's with all the negative waves? 10 goals we can pick up anywhere.
Have a little faith Baby have a little faith

Aye 10-0 is easy, and you will walk the EPL AND CL next year...................no doubt about it.

Why can't teams such as Chelsea and Palace not realise this truth???Defensive, goal scoring spoil sports.
